Take that ugly thing off!

"Take that ugly thing off!" Frowning, Sally put her hands on her hips and shook her head as she looked over at her brother. "I cannot believe you're planning on wearing that out in public. It's old and yucky and it's not your color at ALL!"

When Charlie ignored her and continued to tie his boring brown shoes, Sally stomped over to him, her white shoes clacking on the linolium. She tapped the sole of her shoe on the floor, her arms crossed across her chest as she waited for him to look up.

A loud sigh filled the kitchen, then Charlie's head slowly tilted up to look at her. "What?"

Exasperated, Sally pointed to the ratty yellow shirt. "You've been wearing that thing for years, Big Brother! It doesn't even fit you anymore. It is time to wear something else." Whirling around, she walked to his bedroom (it so should have been hers!) and yanked open his closet door. Her face scrunched up in irritation as she shoved several equally 'yucky' t-shirts to the side. As she spotted a brand-new blue shirt, her face lit up. Grabbing the shirt, she skipped back out to the living room. Holding out the shirt, she nodded decisively. "Wear this one!"

Charlie frowned at her as he took the shirt in his hand. "It's blue."

Sally lifted an eyebrow and nodded. "Very good observation. It's the shirt I got you for your birthday...last year."

"It has buttons."

Sally rolled her eyes and stood her ground. "It'll look nice on you."

The argument went on for forty-five minutes, and Sally went through her full cycle of emotional manipulation: pouting, smiling, big innocent eyes, pleading, yelling, and finally (it never failed), horribly big tears.

As they walked in to the school, Sally looked proudly over at her brother. No one cheered louder than her as her brother got his diploma. The wide-eyed looks she got from everyone proved that! And, even though no one could see the lovely blue shirt under his graduation robes...she knew it was there. The fact that they were ten minutes late, and Charlie missed the 'march in' of the graduates was no matter. Sally was sure Charlie would appreciate that...one day.
