Zoom, Zoom...

I woke this morning with all these philosophical thoughts in my head.  One of those thoughts had to do with perception.  I've noticed that as I grow older I have a tendency to view life with this zoom lense.  Sometimes events going on around me feel very personal at other times I feel like I'm looking at the same events through the wrong end of a telescope.  At those times it's sort of like observing the "human race" like an ant colony in a glass case.  Age brings a certain ability to detach from things I think.  Events are compartmentalized, feelings are sorted, wants and needs are scrutinized.  Even aches and pains are analyzed as to whether it's worth doing something about or not.  I love getting old.

We had a great evening out Sunday.  We took advantage a wonderful gift card I got for Christmas last year and had dinner at The Melting Pot ... It was a real dining experience.  It took us 2 hours to get through the whole meal which started with a tasty 4 cheese fondue that we dipped bread, vegetables, and apple slices into.  Ummmm....  then a few sips of white wine and on to the salad course.  After the salad we were served a platter of raw strip steak, beef filet, chicken, shrimp, and confetti ravioli that we speared and cooked in a wonderful coc au vin broth made with wine.  There was a bowl of potatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, and squash that we could cook in the broth as well.  All of these tidbits were accompanied by various sauces and dips.  More wine was required for sipping purposes.  After a few minutes to clear the table and peruse the chocolate/dessert menue we ordered up the Chocolate-Hazelnut sauce.  Along came a plate with fresh strawberries, sliced bananas, fresh pineapple, almond cookies, brownies, and chocolate sponge cake for dipping.  In the center was a slice of mocha cheese cake topped with a cherry drenched in chocolate.  We dipped and tasted and finished with cups of hot black coffee.  Oh, my...  what a feast.

I placed an on-site Thank You call to the "Santa" who made it all possible.  Thank you, again.  It was a glorious meal.   (Of course I must stay strictly to my eating program this week so that I don't pay the price with pounds on the scale at the end of the week.)
