I don't know anything about mystery shopper programs, though I know that you have to be careful because a lot of them are scams. Some places that look legit are linked from the Mystery Shopping Providers Association.

As for paid surveys, it's really impossible to do enough to make a second income off of. Some pocket change, yes, but not enough to really be worth any more than a dinner out. Any survey place that asks you to pay money to access a database of surveys is probably a scam (not all, but most are). In general -- both for mystery shopping and for paid surveys -- you should never have to pay money to make money. I can give you links of the places I do surveys at, but I probably only make between $5-30 a month from doing them.

Market research is a pretty big thing -- where you actually go in person to test products, listening to marketers, etc. -- though I've never seen any places in Altoona/State College/etc. that do that. There's always the lucrative market of participating in experiments at Penn State. ;)

Thanks for the info! I was hoping you would reply because I knew you have a wealth of knowledge and info on these types of subjects. Thanks so much - perhaps I'll try to make some pocket change for some extra spending cash. =)
I hope all is well with you!

Hey maam... here is what I know. If you want to be a mystery shopper- you SHOULDN'T have to pay for it. If you pay a membership fee, it is most likely a scam. The first place to try is craigslist.com- I've gotten work from there before.

Two places to start for paid surveys are pineconeresearch.com (you have to be invited- next time i get one I will let you know). Bzzagent.com is another good one- you don't get money but you get free "stuff"- I've got nalgenes, ralph lauren perfume, etc...

A good place to look is slickdeals.net and go to the forums for free stuff- they usually have the testing stuff up there first (like for when we did nike shoes and new balance shoes- you can also test digital cameras, computers, scanners, etc)

Does that help?

yeppers! I'm not sure if I'm going to get into it now. I'm not too sure I can invest much time into it anyway, that and my patience... I can't sit here with this computer like I used to be able to do.

It was nice to see you this past weekend! I hope all goes well for you this week. Take care!
