Summary : Sakurai Sho and his little perfect group of friends - Ninomiya Kazunari, Ohno Satoshi and Matsumoto Jun - made a bet about which one of them would make Aiba Masaki fall for him. Why did Nino start the bet? And why did Ohno agree to join the game? Find that out in “Beyond the Bet.”
Ohno`s POV
I tried to not to think negatively about Aiba Masaki, although I didn’t understand why Nino made him enter Sho`s life. I was afraid my dislike for Aiba Masaki didn’t come from him being a bad influence on my friend, but that I didn’t like him because of my feelings for Sho. I tried to separate the two, even though it was really hard with all these feelings.
Sho was really different lately. After Aiba moved to his house, he was cheerful and looked lively. I knew that when he was with me none of this occurred, I liked that change as a friend, but for person who loved him it made me realize all the more that he was beyond my reach. I started to hear a lot of gossips about Sho and Aiba’s relationship. Both really popular at school and all of sudden seen together. They got to and from school together, they ate lunch together… no one would miss how much Sho has changed because of that. He laughed and smiled brightly. I could find something in his eyes, something that I’d never seen before. I already knew what it was. Love…
Satoshi, you should stop those feelings…he is happy with Aiba…you should stop… But my heart screamed, I couldn’t…what should I do not to feel this way…? I couldn’t stop myself from feeling hurt every time he looked at Aiba with that gaze, that protective, warm and loving gaze, like he was so precious and priceless.
Suddenly my view got blocked, I couldn’t see anything except a hand in front of my eyes.
“Why are you looking at them, if it hurts you?” someone asked.
I turned my head and saw Nino sitting beside me. He looked at me, his eyes demanding an answer. I didn’t need to confirm it with him anymore; he knew my feeling for Sho. “Because I can`t stop myself…” I answered.
He pulled his hand back and pushed his tray to the middle of the table. “I`m sorry, Oh-chan…”
“It`s okay, it`s not good to stare at them anyway…” I bit my bread again and chewed on it slowly.
“Not for that, you baka!” he hit my shoulder playfully, but his expression changed suddenly. “I never knew that you had feelings for Sho-kun…If I had known about that maybe I wouldn’t have pushed him onto Aiba…”
I smiled, “And make him suffer because of love…?”
“But I shouldn`t make you suffer because of love either, no?” he asked me back.
“I don’t mind…” I tried my best to make an impression that how much Sho loved Aiba had no relation with me whatsoever. But I knew I couldn’t lie to Nino.
“You do mind, Oh-chan…that’s why…I apologize…” he looked at me with his deep and sharp eyes.
“Nino…I know that…” I bit my lips unable to finish the sentence but he tilted his head and waited, “I heard…he gave a blowjob to a random guy…”
“I knew he gave blowjobs to random guys…” he smiled, as he turned his head to Sho and Aiba, who were laughing about something at the moment. “And that’s his way to run away from reality…”
“What do you mean…?” I asked, totally clueless.
“His mom is a hooker and his dad is a drunkard. Do you know the reason why Sho-kun asked him to live in his house…?” he asked me and propped his chin.
“You know about that?” I asked him back. Sometimes Nino and the thought of how much he knew made me scared.
He smiled. “Because his dad almost raped him. I found out from Sho`s butler…”
He touched the wrinkles that appeared on my forehead, “Although It would’ve probably been better to match Sho-kun with you…”
Sho and Aiba looked as if they’d finished their lunch and walked out from cafeteria, followed by countless looks. I shook my head, “It`s better to see him happy, more than anything…”
“You`re so nice Oh-chan…” he smiled.
“No, you`re the one who’s nice Nino…” I shook my head; I knew that he considered others a lot. He would do anything for his friends; that’s how loyal Nino was.
“And we started to praise each other," he laughed.
“Where do you take all that information from?” I asked, “I mean, about Aiba`s family and all…”
“You want to see me at work?” he asked me back. “C`mon, before we lose them…”
He stood up fast and walked out from the cafeteria, I started for a second and followed him. He walked so fast and I really had no idea where we were headed… “Nino? Where are we going?” I asked while following him.
“Library,” he answered briefly.
“Why?” I asked again, I couldn’t understand.
“Because that is where Sho and Aiba are…” he answered.
“How do you know?” I questioned him.
He slowed down his his pace a little and smiled, “because they finished lunch early and Aiba brought two books with him to the cafeteria; it means they will head to library after lunch…” He answered.
I blinked my eyes twice; he smiled again and held my hand, pulling me to follow his steps. After a few minutes we reached the library. It had always been unbelievably wide, with a lot of books, the racks almost too high. I thought that this kind of library would rather fit in a university. When we entered the library, Nino walked up to the librarian.
“What can I do for you today Ninomiya-kun?” the librarian smiled at him in a way that even I, who’s an insensitive type, noticed that the girl was trying to flirt with him.
“Nothing…I was just wondering, is there any, errrr…” and I saw his eyes catch a title of a book stacked next to the librarian, “…second volume of this book?” he pointed to that book.
“Oh, yes, Aiba-chan was looking for volume two as well, the left corner rack, you will meet Aiba-chan there…” she smiled, not even trying to hide her hunger for Nino’s attention.
“Thank you,” Nino smiled and held my hand as he walked swiftly to the said rack .He placed his index finger in front of his lips as soon as we heard Sho and Aiba’s voices.
He pulled me to the alley next to the one they were in. “What are we doing here?” I whispered, because I could hear Aiba`s voice clearly. Nino peeked from the gap between the books, turned at me and smiled. Does he always do this…? Eavesdropping on other people’s conversation...?
“Nooo…I like chocolate pudding more than books and I like you more than chocolate pudding, so stop comparing yourself with a book,” I could hear Aiba`s voice and he giggled after that. “You should worry that you`ll lose to chocolate pudding…”
“What’s so good about chocolate pudding?” I heard Sho`s voice. I stood up besides Nino and followed his example to take a peek. I could see Aiba leaning against the wall and Sho, facing him, who placed his hands on either sides of Aiba`s body. “It can`t kiss you…” he said as he leaned closer to Aiba. In next second I could see them kiss each other, Sho`s hands trapped Aiba between himself and the wall, while Aiba`s hand was on Sho`s waist and the other one on Sho`s nape to deepen their kiss. He grabbed on Sho`s hair when Sho pulled him closer. “Mmmm…Sho-chan…” he mumbled when Sho kissed his neck briefly and moved back to his lips again.
I couldn’t watch anymore of it…I felt so stupid, I was the stupid, pathetic human there. I walked fast; I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could. But Nino`s hand restrained me. His eyes were teary, “I`m sorry…” he whispered. I didn’t understand what I did, I just didn’t want to see his tears, I pulled him into my embrace and patted his back slowly. He looked back at me and the next thing I realized…his lips were touching mine…
