Wisconsin Avenue

I had an idea for a photo project. I would walk the entire length of one street, or go as far as I could, and take photos. I’d show the nature of the street, and do it in one day. I’d been contemplating this for a couple of months, but I suddenly realized the summer is almost over. I made plans to take a day off work, and I’d walk Wisconsin Ave ( Read more... )

Great pics. The angel is striking, the sun right above. I really like it a lot. My second favorite is the shot of the empty road with the treeline and brick buildings behind.
The terra cotta building- that's gorgeous work. And I can only imagine how much those house windows cost to replace! Beautiful windows, but omg.

There were quite a few houses there with original windows - for obvious reasons. I like that one of the empty street. I can't quite put my finger on why. It just appeals.

Thanks!

I'm so glad you put this here as well. I did see it in the substack email but here I can appreciate it more as I dedicate more time to LJ.
These are all very good, Kevin.
As an aside, that is one of the most beautiful modern rose windows I've ever seen.

When I was at the back of the church, one of the docents made sure I went up to the front to see the window.

That angel is amazing! What a great idea to get the highlights of a walk down a street. So many interesting pics.

Dan did a project like that, years ago: he took one particular trolley line from one end to the other and took pictures all along the way. Then he painted various paintings from those…he meant to do some absurd number of paintings but I think in the end he only completed 10-12 or so. But it’s remarkable because in the intervening years the city has changed: businesses changed over, new construction, changed signs…the collection really became a capsule of the city at a very particular kind, and it’s remarkable how quickly it changed.

I’ll be curious how quickly you feel your photo series ages.
