Character Name: Joe Gibken/Gokai Blue
Series: Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Gender: Male
Age & Canon Point: 20. After Episode 16.
Requested Sponsor: Diamond, Opal, or even Ruby might be good for him too.
Entry position (Cadet, SeeD, Instructor, other): Civilian/Cadet/Pirate. He's had experience with being military, so I wouldn't be surprised if he were to become a cadet and/or SeeD at some point, if he were to leave Marvelous' side... which is highly unlikely.

History:
An ex-member of the Zangyack army Imperial Special Forces, Joe was once part of the opposing force that threatened to destroy the Earth. While training under the Zangyack, Joe was often forced to endure rigorous and abusive training. It was during this time that he also trained under Sid, his senpai, or mentor. Sid taught Joe many of the sword-fighting skills he now possesses.

It was during his first mission for the Zangyack that Joe realized what he had been training for all along. Ordered to cut down a group of children, he blatantly refused and attacked his superior officers, letting the children run away. Because of his insurrection, Joe was taken prisoner and outfitted with an electric collar that could keep track of his every move and would emit an electric shock that could kill him, should he try to remove it. He managed to escape though, with the help of Sid. Unfortunately, his senpai was left behind.

Once on the outside, he continued to fight through hordes of Gormin and Sugormin that came after him. It was then that Captain Marvelous first noticed Joe. Slowly becoming overwhelmed by his attackers, Joe wasn’t about to give up, though his end was just about imminent. Then Marvelous appeared, offering to help him fight the Gormin and Sugormin off. Realizing that Marvelous was a space pirate, Joe warned him that he would get no money for saving him… and that was when Marvelous told him that it wasn’t money he wanted. He wanted Joe.

They fought off the Zangyack forces together, proving to be quite the combination. Afterwards, Joe told Marvelous about the collar around his neck, and how removing it could kill both of them. Still, Marvelous took it upon himself to pry it off of Joe with his bare hands. As they fall to the ground, Marvelous makes his intentions known to Joe, and he accepts, thankful for what Marvelous has done for him, and vowing to stay with him until he reaches his dream. Marvelous passes him a Mobirate and the blue ranger key.

Joe was the first member of Marvelous’ crew. In time, the crew grew to include others-Luka Milify, Don Dogoier, and Ahim de Famille. Finding out that Earth was where the greatest treasure in the universe could be found, they set a course for the planet. Unfortunately for them, the Zangyack had their eye on the planet as well, planning on capturing it. At first the Gokaigers were uninterested in fighting off the Zangyack for the sake of the Earth-they were more concerned with finding the greatest treasure. This all changed when they saved a group of children. From then on, they became an official enemy of the Zangyack, with bounties placed on their heads (as of now, Joe has a bounty of 4,000,000 zagins).

Since their stay on Earth was going to be a prolonged one, they found out that the different ranger keys that they use to transform into different Sentai were one of 34 different Sentai teams from the past. They also found out that each of the Sentai teams had a Grand Power that could only be found on Earth by meeting their legendary counterparts. This only gave the Gokaigers a reason to stay.

While searching for one of these legendary powers, they came across Princess Kaoru Shiba, who had once held ShinkenRed’s power. Discovering that the ones who held the Shinkenger keys were pirates, she demanded that they give the keys to her. Of course, they refused. This resulted in Joe challenging her to a duel-if she wins, she gets the keys. If he wins, she shares the Shinkengers’ Grand Power.

Unfortunately, the duel is cut short, interrupted by an invasion by the Zangyack. Oiles Gil, the Zangyack Emperor's son and commander, decides to come down to Earth to get the job done himself with the help of Barizorg and Delzeiger. While the Gokaigers are engaged in combat with Delzeiger, Joe goes off on his own to confront the Emperor's son. Unfortunately for him, Barizorg is there to protect him, and as they fight it is revealed through a specific stance that Barizorg uses that he is actually Joe's old senpai, Sid.

Clearly distraught by this, Joe is in a state of shock, unable to fight back. As he relinquishes himself to an attack, Marvelous steps in and takes the brunt of the attack, saving him and also dealing Oiles Gil a wound from his pistol. Barizorg escorts Oiles Gil back to their ship, retreating, making it possible for Joe and Marvelous to retreat back to their ship as well.

Seeing his comrade in pain and still curious over the fate of his old senpai, Joe decides to take matters into his own hands again and go out on his own to try to get through to Sid/Barizorg. Though determined to restore his senpai's memories, he is unsuccessful. Feeling as though he ended up in the same place he started, Joe suddenly realizes that he already has comrades that he left behind... and he can't let that happen.

As he makes his way back to them, he bumps into Kaoru again and she explains to him that she has seen the bond between the group, and that she has lost the duel. As promised, she gives them the Shinkengers' Great Power.

Joe rejoins his team and they defeat Delzeiger. He also makes an off-handed comment that he's "home," meaning Marvelous and the rest of the crew.

Joe will be coming from the end of Episode 16, "Clash! Sentai vs. Sentai." In this episode, Joe and the rest of the crew, except Marvelous, are kidnapped by Basco ta Joloka, Marvelous' old crewmate. They are being held with a ransom-- the chest of ranger keys in exchange for them. Marvelous eventually saves them all, and they walk away with 15 new ranger keys, though it is revealed that Basco has more.

After this comes the movie. Unfortunately due to the movie not being out anywhere else except for Japan, I haven't seen it. So this is where it ends... for now.

Garden History: N/A (Sorry, I changed my mind on this!)

Abilities & Physical Abnormalities:
Joe is a skilled swordsman. He trained under Sid Bamick, while in the Imperial Special Forces, who taught him most of what he knows about sword-fighting. As a Gokaiger, his is equipped with:

Mobirate - This is what makes it possible for them to transform into their sentai counterparts. It looks like a cell phone, and can be used as such as well. To transform, the user inserts a ranger key into a special key-slot in the device and turns. Bam.

GokaiSabre - A sword that also has a key slot. When a ranger key is inserted, it makes them able to perform a special Gokaiger attack-- a sword-slash version of the Final Wave. Both in and out of Sentai form, Joe usually "borrows" another teammate's sabre, and dual-wields while passing them his pistol. He has an individual special attack as GokaiBlue-- he takes all five sabres and performs the Five-Sword, One-Man Final Wave. The uses five different blue ranger keys in each of the sabres: GingaBlue, ShinkenBlue, HurricaneBlue, MagiBlue, and GoseiBlue. Each sentai counterpart slashes the enemy and GokaiBlue finishes him off by a five-sword final slash.

GokaiGun - A gun that has a key slot as well. When a ranger key is inserted, it makes the user able to perform the pistol version of the Final Wave. The gun can be used in and out of sentai form, though Joe usually passes his on to another teammate to borrow their sword.

GokaiBelt - A special belt buckle that houses their ranger keys. It is connected to the treasure chest of ranger keys found on the Galleon. They are able to connect to the chest and use any ranger key they want through his belt.

Ranger Keys - The ranger keys are what make it possible for them to change into their various sentai counterparts. Each type of sentai has different powers, and the Gokaigers can take advantage of those powers while in battle by transforming into them. All they have to do is insert a key into their Mobirate to transform. These keys can also be used on their weapons, as seen with GokaiBlue's special attack.

Joe prefers to transform into blue sentai counterparts of the past. These are just a list of abilities and/or weaponry that come with each transformation:

Personality:
Joe is a man of few words. When he does choose to express himself, his words are usually not worthless. He is a serious person, usually intent on the task at hand, though he is not immune to being surprised, as when he found out that Barizorg was Sid. Joe stays rather calm and collected most of the time, and it is impossible to guess what is going through his mind by just looking at him. That being said, he has a killer poker face... which makes it rather easy for him to win.

Just because he has a steel-like exterior doesn't mean that he's cold and heartless. On the contrary, he has a great deal of respect for Marvelous and the rest of the crew. He considers them his family. After all, Marvelous saved him and brought him on this adventure. He was there as each of the other members joined, and as they all spent more time together, his bond to the rest of his comrades grew.

Because he was the first member of Marvelous' crew, he is also the one who knows him the best. They tend to work well together while in battle. They also know when to let each be, and when to step in. There is an understanding between the two of them, and they trust each other. Joe admires Marvelous' perseverance in reaching his dream. When Marvelous risked his life to pull the collar off of him, he had no choice but to give himself to Marvelous' cause.

Even though Joe is able to hide his emotions well, his reactions to things he doesn't agree with are rather transparent. If he doesn't care for it, he'll openly let you know by a comment of disapproval or a roll of his eyes.

It is not to say that he doesn't have any morals, either. He refused his first assignement with the Zangyack, which was killing a group of children. Though he saves the people of Earth on a regular basis as a Gokaiger, he claims not to be doing so for their protection, but rather to find treasure.

He takes his training very seriously. Most of the time, when he's not out with the crew searching for treasure, you can find him working out-- doing sit-ups or push-ups. Sometimes, he even falls asleep on his work-out bench. He even will go as far as hurting himself to get better at his craft. All this training helps make him a quick strike and skillful hand at his craft, which just happens to be sword-wielding.

Joe has an uncanny knack for making beautiful and tasty pastries, though he doesn't make them often, if at all. If he's feeling particularly bad for screwing up (which is rare), then maybe. He also has a taste for chicken wings, which sadly no one has indulged him with yet. He is also rather afraid of drag queens.

What are your plans for the character in-game?
Joe is with Marvelous in whatever he does, so if it's the Galleon he's looking for, then that's what Joe is looking for. If Marvelous wants to cut down some SeeD cadets, then Joe's cool with that too... though he might be interested in what this whole SeeD thing is about. As far as parading around as a spandex-clad, helmet-wearing, blue super hero... that'll definitely happen too. You just won't know it's him because he'll be able to use his different ranger keys to transform into different sentai.

Anything else?
If it's possible, Joe would like to be assigned to the same room as Marvelous.

ii) Prose sample:
Joe sat back in his chair, careful to hide his hand.

It was an uneventful day for treasure-hunting, so they had decided to start up a game of poker. After the cards were dealt, he observed the others' faces. Ahim and her innocent expression was easy to decipher-- she probably had a good hand, by the way her eyes danced. Don's smile betrayed him, for he probably had something there as well. Luka's face was always tough to read, and he knew she was either cheating or... well, he just didn't know. She was good at this.

Now, Marvelous on the other hand... that smirk of his said one of two things-- that he was quite confident in his hand, or he was going to try to bluff himself out of this hand. More than likely, it was the prior. Joe knew him too well. He never had any luck when it came to poker.

As for himself, his expression was the same. Stoic. Unmoving. Not even a smile or a smirk to tell the others anything. The hand he held was a good one... but he didn't get his hopes up. For all he knew, someone had a better hand.

When it was time to reveal their hands, Joe finally let a smirk grace his lips. A two-pair, three-of-a-kind, a straight, and a flush stared back at him... as well as the others.

He set down his cards on the table.

"Straight flush."

That made eleven wins. In a row.
