[Have a really, REALLY shaky handwriting, as though whoever's writing this hurts quite a bit or is exceptionally scared... or hey, why not both. And there's an ink splotch on the top.]

.../looks like a diary. I can't tell.

[Another ink blot, but this one's apparently intentional.]

Diary isn't really the word I'd use. Diaries are private. These things? A little less so.

[ That thump? That was Hermione dropping the journal. On her leg. Which still hurts. ]

You can describe it as a diary, but I don't think it really counts as one when everyone can read it.

[The voice that responds is soft and definitely sounds strained.]

Then what would you call it?

Well, we just call them journals, but they're still communication devices.

You're new here, right? Here, that's a guide for Luceti, it should help explain everything.

[She does indeed sound as though she's seen better days. And she's hesitating. She's going to get more information before she accepts help. Can't be too careful with a War out there.]

Can you tell me what's happened and where I am?

Dey are termed 'journals' most often.

[voice] loyalotter September 2 2009, 17:38:34 UTC
I guess that would be the more appropriate term now that I've seen what they're capable of.

Dey are simple things, yes. But dat does not make them useless.

Looks like a method of communication, which would be, as you say, not useless at all.

Voice commands work, just probably not in a way you'd expect.

[How many voices does this thing have?!]

...So I'm noticing.

Takes some getting used to, but this journal's one of the more normal things around here.

It's nothing compared to the giant squid that attacked a few months back.
