Generalised rage

I've been quite ragey the last few days. I think I've been become more & more filled with feminist rage over the last few months, and this weekend it just utterly boiled over with the horrific treatment of Marion Bartoli (see here if you haven't alreadyI'm not sure if things are worse these days, or I'm just more aware of it; I've been debating ( Read more... )

I'm not sure if things are worse these days, or I'm just more aware of it; I've been debating this with various people and we all think it's a bit of both. Plus I'm just less tolerant of BS these days - less willing to accept things as "banter" or "jokes", and less willing to ignore sexism for a quiet life. I know all about picking my battles, and I choose to pick this one. I've been feeling the same way - less about the mansplaining, but I don't move in the same types spheres as you do (although game group definitely can be, and there are people I avoid if at all possible). Yes! This kind of thing too! I focussed on mansplaining as that's what I tend to get ,but oh god I have seen this sort of thing too and *raaaage*. Tumblr is really bad for it.

I have a friend who really likes Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber and he keeps forgetting that we've talked about it (three or four times) and it's getting hard for me to not say, every single time, those books are crap. They're badly written, the dialogue is shit, the men are superhero-powerful and the women are damp rags.

I sometimes wish I could go back to the days when I didn't notice the sexist and racist and fatphobic, homophoic, ablist shit that is everywhere, but my god, I can't unsee it. And I really wouldn't want to - but constant rage is exhausting.

It is exhausting. I could barely sleep last night because I was so cross.
