i remember our first gold fish, one for dan, one for ben. ben cried his eyes out when his was the first to die. then we bought another one for ben. then ben's died again. he was a bit bummed but no tears. we bought another one. then dan's died. he was a little upset. we bought another fish for him too. then that one died. the boys were cool with it. then the last fish lasted very long until mel took the boys to miami and i forgot to feed it for 3 days. then it died. i told them,'gold fish just don't live long'. i confessed the truth to mel.
through it all, the boys learned an important lesson about the nature of life and death and gold fish.
now they want a parrot.
