I'm all for OSDP rights....but I want you to realize that gays aren't asking for special consideration. I can't imagine any of the gay couples I know bitching about unmarried heterosexual couples being afforded the same rights that they are asking form. In fact, most of my gay friends (and there are lots of them) have bemoaned the fact not that they, as gays, are discriminated against, but that married people get special treatment that those who are unmarried (either because they CAN'T marry the one they love, or because they choose not to get married).

I have met gay individuals and couples that were quite outspoken to get rights that they could not get as a couple otherwise. I guess it just depends on the person. Same as me not clamboring for special tratment because I am a gimp.

Like I said in the previous post, I agree with gay marriage. It is just that because gay marriage is not recognized, in order to secure these benefits, someone, somewhere granted this right for gay individuals that is denied to strait individuals.

I think that SSDP clauses need to go by the wayside and be replaced by spousal rights. However, until such time, I think that the benefits need to be equal accross the board.

I agree with you 100%. A friend of mine works for a company that offers Domestic Partner benefits, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, and I think that is exactly what is needed nationwide.

I guess all I was trying to say is not to assume that gays don't want straights to have those rights, as well.

OK. I am not assuming that.

I am guessing you are refering to I have said in the past, there would be no end to the grief if I was to organize a heterosexual pride parade. from the second post. I am not saying it would necessarily come from the gay community. Much of the zeal behind political correctness and "equal rights" is from people that are not even affected by any changes.
