HSJ-thon archive 01.
When Hikaru was in elementary school he fell head over heals for the girl who sat directly in front of him. She always wore cheery yellow ribbons in her hair and her smile made Hikaru feel all funny inside. He used to pull on her pig tails and run away. He had thought that that was quite an acceptable way to show her that he liked her.
She hadn’t thought so at all.
When she punched him in the stomach during their lunch break one sunny afternoon, he was most affronted. Tears filled his eyes and he coughed and spluttered. She yelled that she hated him. He couldn’t understand what he had done wrong.

His best friend helped him up, straightened his hat and brushed his bangs away from his eyes and led him to the Nurse’s station. Hikaru hadn’t really thought this was necessary. He wasn’t actually hurt, the punch hadn’t stung at all but he allowed himself to be led along. Maybe the nurse would give him a lollipop. Hikaru hoped it was a red one.
He was push-pulled through the corridor and shoved into the room. The Nurse fretted and fussed over his tear streaked face and Hikaru’s heart beat that tiny bit faster. The Nurse had long wavy hair pinned back with red barrettes.
Hikaru whined a little and then smirked as the Nurse turned her attention back to him. He glanced at his friend who just rolled his eyes in response. A red lollipop was shoved under his nose and Hikaru grinned.
03.
He was first thrust into the limelight at a young age and really he hadn’t minded at all. He has many fond memories of the Ya-Ya-yah show. It had always been interesting and the other boys were exciting and charismatic and fun. He remembers his first time appearing on that show, when he was practically tossed into a dressing room and manhandled into a chair. He had then been accosted by various women as they poofed his hair and slathered foul smelling makeup on his face.
When he was ordered to open his eyes again, his breath caught in his throat. The prettiest girl he had ever seen has leaning over him. Her feathered green earrings swaying gently from side to side, hypnotizing him, as she worked. He found after that he didn’t mind being poked and prodded, pushed and pulled as long as she was there.

Hikaru had already been a member of Ya-Ya-yah for a little while before the first time he was invited to visit Yabu’s home. He had met Yabu’s mother several times before. She was such a pretty lady, always smiling. Hikaru liked her.
What Hikaru had not realized was that when Yabu said he had an older sister he actually meant; he had an older sister. It had never really occurred to Hikaru that older sister did indeed mean - girl.
Hikaru should have known she would be pretty. Yabu was pretty. Yabu’s mother was pretty, thus it should follow that Yabu’s older sister would be pretty as well. She had come in in her orange sundress, placed a tray of snacks on the small table in Yabu’s bedroom, graced them both with a smile and walked out again. Hikaru’s jaw had dropped.
Yabu had smacked him upside the head.
Hikaru had pouted.

By the time Hikaru had reached middle school his name was already known by hundreds of girls. And although he was never one to shy away from the attention he had to admit it was most unnerving to have your name screamed at you by a gaggle of girls he’d never met before and was unlikely to ever see again. The first time it happened, Hikaru had run for his life.
By the time he had reached high school he had taken to wearing caps pulled low over his eyes and sunglasses if the day warranted it. He didn’t meet anyone’s eye on the train, keeping his earphones in to discourage conversation, regardless of whether he was listening to music or not and playing with his phone to appear occupied.
It was a Sunday and Hikaru was exhausted. The train was miraculously less crowded than usual. Hikaru was counting the stops till he had to get off, only two more to go, when suddenly the train jolted a little before proceeding on its merry way. Everyone jerked through that little hiccup. The girl holding the strap next to him spilt the entire contents of her bag. She swore under her breath and Hikaru bit back a smile.
He stooped to help her collect her things. He picked up her phone; a brilliant sky blue in colour, and held it out to her. She pushed her bangs out of her eyes and gave him a sheepish smile in thanks.
Hikaru’s heart leapt to his throat. He smiled back.

Hikaru fell back against Inoo’s bed. His palms pressed against the vivid indigo sheets. He sighed heavily and steadfastly ignored Inoo’s inquisitive murmur. He was content to just lie here and stare at the ceiling.
“Um. Hikaru. Why are you here?”
He turned on is side and propped himself up on his left elbow and looked at his friend. He was sitting at his desk chair, watching me.
“I’m giving up on love.”
Inoo snickered but schooled his features back to neutral at the sight his Hikaru’s indignation.
“Why are you giving up on love Hikaru?”
Hikaru didn’t answer as something else caught his attention.
“Why are your nails pink?”
Inoo spluttered and hid his hands behind his back. Hikaru swung of the bed and took the three steps it took to be at his side. Reaching around, it didn’t take much effort at all to take his hand and open his fist. As he peered down at Inoo’s finger nails it became apparent that they were most definitely painted. It sounded strange but the pretty pink colour looked good on his delicate fingers. Inoo snatched his hands away and Hikari looked into his face to find rosy cheeks. He was embarrassed.
“I was ambushed by my sister and her friends.”
Hikaru laughed at the muttered confession and grabbed at his hands.
“Pink suits you.”
“It’s violet.”
At the halfhearted correction, Hikaru laughed again. Looking down at his long fingers and delicate girly hands a strange feeling crept up on him. Hikaru met Inoo’s abashed smile and found his gaze flickering to his pouty red lips and found that his heart started to race. He took in the curve of Inoo’s jaw line, the soft rounded cheeks but upon meeting those pretty brown eyes Hikaru thought his heart was about to leap out of his chest.
It suddenly struck him, like a giant lightning bolt; Inoo was a girl. How could he had missed it all these years. Before Hikaru could clear his thoughts he found himself pinned to the wall by those delicate hands. He gasps as those long fingers brush against his flanks. The thought of those painted nails pressed against his skin make him shiver, make him moan.
He manages to finally un-stick his tongue from the roof of his mouth for just long enough to murmur Inoo’s name before his best friend’s tongue is tracing the shell of his ear and all coherent thoughts leave him completely as Inoo’s thigh presses between his own and makes him loose his breath.
Okay… so Inoo wasn’t a girl. That point was proved to Hikaru without a shadow of a doubt. But as he pressed Inoo into his insanely vivid purple sheets and together the saw all the colours of the rainbow he realized, Inoo is girly enough for him.
