archive I’ve never confessed to anyone before. I’ve never felt the need to. That feeling I’ve read about in books and manga and seen in movies, I’ve never seen any evidence in my own life. It was like, I acknowledge it, and I know it exists but because it hasn’t ever touched me, it wasn’t really real.
I’ve had girls give me chocolates on Valentines and I’ve been given love letters filled with cutesy words and mushy sentiments but, to me, it was never real.
So as I stand with my back pressed flush against his bedroom wall, I am suddenly hit with the thought that this…this moment… is very very real. It’s real and it’s terrifying.
I’ve stood on stage before thousands and it was a walk in the park compared to this.
I can see him across the room, his face cast in shadow from the light coming through the slit in his curtains. He stands with ease, like he hasn’t a care in the world. Meanwhile, across the cavern that is his bedroom. I feel like I’m about to pass out. He has this air about him. A kind of presence that sucks me in; tosses me about and haphazardly spits me out completely out of my depth on the other side. He can do it with just a glance or a smile.
“So, I think I may be in love with you.”
I cringe as I hear my own sentiments voiced aloud. It sounds so dismal and small to my ears, not at all like the earth shattering moment it truly is. My confession fades away as my voice cracks. I feel light headed and breathless. My head is pounding as I shove my fists into my pockets to hide just how badly I’m shaking.
“That’s good…”
I can hear the laughter in his voice. I know he’s smiling at me but I’m too scared to raise my eyes. I feel him move closer to me and my heart is racing a mile a minute. I don’t know what to think. I wait with baited breath.
“…because I know I’m in love with you.”
My whole world goes white and there is this strange ringing in my ears.
“Chinen? Chii?”
I raise my head and as my vision slides back into focus, I can see his eyes searching mine. His brow is furrowed and his are quirked in a bemused smirk.
He reaches out to me.
His words finally register. His thumb smooths my cheek as he takes my hand. He presses it to his chest and I feel his racing heartbeat beneath my palm.
I lean forward as he takes me in his arms. The last thing I see is the truly beautiful smile gracing his lips as his words repeat in my head.
