how long will you guys be in egypt again? Could you put some stuff in storage or is the time frame out of the question?
I've only moved within the states, so can't offer any advice. But my sister in law just lived in NZ for a year and then moved here to seattle. They put some things in storage in Wisconsin which then had to moved here, but they mostly bought things in NZ and then sold it again when they moved back.
we'll be over there for 3 years... at least that is the time of the contract. could be a little less or a little more. who really knows for sure.
we will put some stuff in storage. i also really need to clear out too. get rid of stuff we never use. it's so hard for me to let go, you know? it's probably time... hanging on isn't always good.
Wheezie-Peez, I know it sounds like a total cop-out answer, but resort to Mom's favorite way of getting things done -- start making lists! Seriously!!! It's so much easier (and so much more rewarding) when you make a list of the various things. There HAVE to be lists online somewhere about preparing to move/international moves, etc. I'll see if I can find anything for you. One step at a time...one day at a time. Be glad at least, that a LOT of the crap (visas, etc.) will be handled by the company! XOXO. I'll see if I can find something online. Nan
It has been so long since I was over here. I had no idea you were moving! How very exciting! My ex husband lived in Egypt when he was a boy. Loved it over there. Oh, what a grand adventure! How long do you anticipate being there??
hi! thanks for saying hello! i just posted that we are moving. i had to wait to share it with everyone until it was made public at the office. we have heard very positive things about egypt. i have a feeling we will love it. there will be so many amazing things to see!!! the contract is for three years, so somewhere in that time frame... we'll see...
I am noticing that there are firms/services designed to help people in your situation find living space and settle abroad-- I am sure there are such firms in Cairo-- and if you used such a firm they might help you figure out what you really need to take. Academics tend to be more shoestring... you are making a complicated move with a family.
I would break it down this way-- what do you really need to take along? Everything else gets stored.
the company will provide us with agents here and there... we are very lucky to be doing this move with a large company that covers all necessary expenses.
i've been wanting to clear out much of the clutter in my life... i think it gets in the way anyway... this may be my opportunity to do just that! if i can only garner the strength!!!
