Excessive emotion, either happy or sad, can affect your ability to perform tasks. Certainly, we know that sadness can cause us to be pessimistic and to lose confidence in ourselves. Happiness has the opposite effect, sometimes leading us to momentarily lose focus on other important matters in life. But I don't think we should deny ourselves happiness when it comes our way. It's true that sometimes we have to work hard instead of indulging in things that would give us "short-term" happiness in order to achieve "long-term" happiness in the future. But if we keep denying ourselves happiness in the present, when will we ever allow ourselves to experience it? There will always will bills to pay, goals to be met, things to do. Happiness motivates us to pursue life with optimism and fuels our desire to take on these challenges. It's what keeps us running

I don't intend to not recognise happiness or deny it in anyway when I feel it or when it comes my way. I just don't want happiness to hinder, or "fog" my path to... well, my goals, let's say. I'm one of those people that can easily be influenced or easily get off track should I get too happy and dwell on it. And I should know that by now with past experiences, though they may be small, that still serve well as Note-to-Self lessons. I'm the type that need some whipping to keep my head clear on the goals I am trying to aim for. And I find happiness very addictive. That's why I said I wish for "less" happiness. It can serve as some sort of buffer or the "whip".
But I'll definitely keep your last statement in mind... and that while looking straight at my goals, I shan't forget the scenaries on the side.

And parents... yeah... ...no comment.
