Long story. But the short version is that he used to be a villian, but reformed when he almost killed his daughter Nadira. Nadira had just learned not all humans were bad, and Ransik attacke her thinking she was one of the Rangers.

Superman, I have no intention on fighting these Rangers, despite any misgivings, I assure you. Not with this many non-hostile tamers running about, and even if I was, I wouldn't survive long enough to tell the tale.

I'm a changed man, Superman, and there's nothing you could say or do to make me say otherwise.
