In short, yes. I was baptised Catholic, but my mom brought my brother and me up to make up our own minds about what happened after death. I do believe in an afterlife. I think it's a state of mind, though.....you go where you believe you'll go, and if you believe nothing happens, then that's exactly how it'll be. My perception of the afterlife is probably a Christian one, though I don't believe heaven and hell are going to be the same as depicted in Christian art or literature. I can't say I have a precise image in my mind, but I hope all those innocent victims whose deaths I investigated end up in a better place than they were when they died.
Should I ever have a child of my own, I plan on teaching him or her exactly what my mother told me: strength resides in your mind, not your hand. You can change the world with knowledge more than you can with a gun or fists. It's the most important lesson I've ever learnt, and it will be one that I hope remains known in the generations to come.
