Scotty wasn't exactly sure what had happened. He was still somewhat in a state of shock, and he knew that he should head up to Medical and get his arm taken care of, but first things first - he had to make sure his crew was alright. It probably should have worried him that he couldn't quite feel his arm, but there were more important things to ( Read more... )

Jack didn't waste a moment once he realized that Scotty wasn't going to be responding to him, he was out the door, in the SUV, phoning up Sulu and telling him he needed him with his portkey to meet him in Ianto's entryway as soon as he possibly could. Luckily, Grangetown was only a minute or two away if you had sirens that enabled you to run lights and pass people and generally break traffic laws as a whole. From there, he met with Sulu, the pair of them made the hop back to the Enterprise, and then he was off, all but running down the corridor to Engineering. He couldn't tell why exactly he didn't go straight to medical, but he had a funny feeling that the other man hadn't started to make the trip there yet.

And so he found himself racing into the engine room, asking people where Scotty was, and sure enough, they directed him further into the place itself, rather than away. "Scotty?" he called out, making his way not-so-calmly to the area that they'd described.

His arm wasn't working quite right. And it still hadn't exactly sunk in why his arm wasn't working right. In a distant sort of way, he was aware that his arm felt a bit wet, and his side as well, but that was about it. His right arm worked just fine, however, and once the epicenter of the blast had been roped off he'd started directing his crew, breaking them up into teams - one team to get started with cleanup, one team to find out what the hell had happened, and-- He paused, when he heard a familiar voice calling his name. What was Jack doing here? More importantly, who'd let Jack in the engine room just after there'd been an accident?

"Jack?" He turned, looking for the other man. "What are you doin' here? This area's off-limits." Normally, he wouldn't have minded Jack coming to pay him a visit, but if something blew up again and Jack was there when it happened... "I'm sorry, but you need t'leave."

Jack made a beeline straight for the other man, putting a hand on the side of his neck, checking for a pulse as well as just anchoring the other in the here and now. Pulse seemed fine to Jack, but he wasn't a doctor, and so that really only meant that he could find one and it seemed regular still, if a bit fast. Scotty's skin was definitely cold and clammy, though, despite how warm it was in the engine room, and his blue eyes were far less blue than they should have been, his pupils pretty dilated. "Shit," Jack said, emphatically. "I should be asking you the same thing yourself, Scotty. Why the hell are you still down here? You should have gotten yourself to medical as soon as you shut that video off."

Something was definitely wrong, there. Scotty didn't even seem to notice that there was a piece of shrapnel embedded in his arm. That and the other symptoms were leading Jack to believe that the other man was in shock. He'd seen it in the trenches before, and knew that that sort of thing was never good.

"Got t'make sure th'thing doesn't blow up again," he answered, trying and failing to raise his arm to brush Jack's hand away from his neck. "You really shouldn't be down here." He wasn't at all cognizant of the reason Jack was telling him that he needed to go medical, and he tried again to brush Jack's hand off him so he could go and get back to work, and once again his arm refused to cooperate. He glanced down, trying to figure out what was wrong, and... Blinking, he looked back up at Jack, and back down at his arm again, and by the time his mouth caught up with his brain all he could manage was a quiet, "Oh." It occurred to him then that he was beginning to feel a bit light-headed. "I think." He paused, reaching with his other arm to hold onto Jack's arm. "I think I should. Go t'Medical."
