[Scotty's in his quarters, sitting in bed, his left arm all bandaged up, and he looks a little spacey. Small wonder, considering the painkillers he's on because he's a total baby when it comes to being hurt. He's finally convinced Jack that he really really needs to let everyone know he's alright, although he's definitely looking like he could ( Read more... )

Already got some. [But he's high enough that unless Jack steps in, he might just agree to Eris dropping by for a visit. Which would be bad.]

[Oooooooh, no no no no no. Sorry Eris, definitely not the time. Jack graciously steps in, moving to Scotty's side, putting his arm around the other man, not at all in a possessive way...]

Sorry, Eris. This one's really not in the right place for anything like that.

[Immediately following this thread]

Scotty wasn't sure what had happened. His head was still fuzzy enough from his medication that he was having trouble following conversations, and only had enough of an attention span to catch bits and pieces. He didn't know why, but he was very much aware of the fact that Jack was upset now, and... He leaned over a little, resting his head against Jack's shoulder, trying to focus long enough to think of something to say.

Jack was fuming. Jack was livid. Jack was...feeling that darkness that crept up on him slowly starting to creep in and threaten to eat him up from within. Not only had Eris brought up some horrible points, but they were horrible points that were true, at least in Jack's eyes, and to know that the goddess could see that and know when he was up for what and when to press the right buttons seemed unfair to him. More than unfair. Jack... Jack had been in a decent mood until Eris had spoken to him, but now. Now Jack was at a loss, and only the fact that he didn't want to leave Scotty kept him from getting up right there and storming off to go find somewhere to brood about it for a little while. As it was, he just sat there, tossing the PADD aside as Scotty leaned against him.

Scotty turned just enough so he could look up at Jack, his brow creasing when he saw the expression on Jack's face. And God, he wished he could pinpoint exactly what it was that Eris had said - or... what it was that he had done, if he'd done anything - that upset Jack that much. He wanted to fix it. Because that's what he did, he fixed things. But he couldn't fix things if he didn't know what was wrong, and... His ability to concentrate was tenuous at best. Kept getting distracted. For a long moment, he just sat there, fixated on Jack's eyes. His attention slipped then, and he blinked, and took in the expression on Jack's face again. "I'm." He paused, his brow furrowing even more. "Sorry." He didn't know if he should be apologizing for anything, but if he should be, he wanted to, and he wanted Jack to know that if any of this was in some way his fault, he was sorry for it.

Jack leaned forward, running a hand through his hair and shaking his head, falling silent for a moment. It was obvious from the way that Scotty was apologizing to him that the man had absolutely no idea what had just gone down a moment ago, what Eris had said to him and how the words had dug so deep as they had. What was worse, Scotty seemed to be apologizing as if he thought that it were his fault, which really wasn't the case. Jack's emotions were all over the place in that moment, enough so that he wasn't even sure how reassuring he was as he spoke up to try and ease the other man's mind.

"Don't worry about it," he said, succinctly. "It wasn't your fault."
