Hank relaxed back into his seat. THis was a nice restaurant. He was glad they were somewhere solid for his first Christmas away from home. He'd already promised Mom and Dad he'd call if possible on the day. Maybe Paula would want to join the conversation ( Read more... )

Risa was beautiful, Paula thought, her lips curving up in a smile as she tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear. She looked over the menu, wondering if the chocolate pie could possibly be as good as their server had claimed. Deciding on that, she handed the menu back and sipped her wine, glancing up to find Hank's eyes on her.

Meeting his parents... Paula set her glass down, surprised. "But I've already talked to your mom." Not for long, she realized. That time she'd answered the comm in his quarters when he'd hurt his arm had hardly been the time to get to know the woman. But she'd been perfectly nice. Somehow, the phrasing made meeting the parents seem a whole lot more formal.

"I kind of meant a more formal introduction," Hank admitted. "And meet both of them. Along with whatever family is nearby?"

"Oh," Paula said, biting her lip. Why she should be blushing, she didn't know, but she could feel her face turning pink. "We could do that, I guess. And maybe you could meet mine." It occurred to her that she hadn't actually brought anyone home or introduced them to her family since college.

She drank some more wine, relieved when their dessert showed up. "This looks good." The pie was garnished with chocolate shavings and looked decadent.

"MMmm," Hank said, staring at it. "It does. I'd like to meet your parents. Are they having a big Christmas? You'll probably meet a lot of my cousins, and of course my sister. We do huge family Christmases, and they'll probably all want to say hi since this is my first time away from home for Christmas."
