The party was one of those highbrow functions that Kate normally liked to avoid but couldn't always get out of. She could make polite conversation, and she did so, though she really missed just being able to wander off with her sister who was now hanging on her husband

God frigg'n hates him today. "My cousin is a partner in the catering company. He plead his case to Grandma." He looks around. "Better take something to eat before they think I'm falling down on the job.

He so wants to just sneak off and just go see the the exhibit.

"Your family contibuted to the Jacob and Gwen Lawrence exhibition? That's actually really cool."

Kate pulled a piece of the tray and put it in her mouth. The food was actually pretty good which was one thing you could count on at a thing like this. "Oh, so I guess this means you're not working at the library at the moment," Kate said, mentally smacking herself for that astute observation.

Someone who's name she couldn't remember waved at her and Kate took another hors d'oeuvre off the tray. If this kept up she'd end up eating the whole thing.

"Yeah, we did. If you hear my father tell the story we own most of this museum," Kate said with a shrug. "It's a big part of the new exhibit actually."

"Nope. When they moved me to Scottsdale..." Because of the Law. Because of the YA. He shrugs and offers an treat to a passer-by. "I'm trying to get it back now that things are more settled and I'm officially back in Harlem."

"Um, after the set I have to do, want to try and sneak up there and look at it?" Too fast. Try again. "You know, field exercise?"
