[Today, Uhura is making herself useful. She's in the item shop, rummaging around for, well... anything that she might be able to convert into a radio, so a lot of non-working electronic stuff is piling up in a rucksack she's carrying.

Go on, ask her what she's doing/bug her/tease her/etc.]

[Mitsuru is also in the item shop, doing almost exactly the same thing. She hasn't noticed Uhura yet.]

[Digging through stuff on a shelf, she spots the other woman. Silently, Uhura holds up some sort of electronic doohicky.]

Don't think I'll want this. You want it?

[She takes the object, examining it for a moment.]\

...It might prove useful.

[She drops it into her bag.]

Planning anything in particular?

[Vash is wandering the item shops. Still on the look out for christmas gifts.] Hm... no. That won't work. But maybe this? No. OH! Those look interesting! [He's holding something small up in his hand before he notices there is someone else here with him.] OH! Miss! Could I ask you a question! [He holds out some earrings.] Would a girl like something like these?

[And she glances up at being addressed.]

I'd say it depends on the girl. Does she like sparkly jewelry?

I think so... she's a pirate.

Well, I can't say I've ever known any pirates, but it's my understanding they do tend to like sparkly things.

[Oddly enough, that's not all that far off from what Cameron's coming in to do. She stops, observing the other girl for a moment or two more.]

What are you going to build?

lt_linguist December 16 2009, 01:27:07 UTC
Well, I'm hoping to build some kind of radio.

[And now she's finally going to look up at you.]

What about you?

cameronbaum December 16 2009, 01:40:40 UTC
That is a good idea.

[she looks around]

Batteries. I looked when I came to find my clothes, but I couldn't find any. I wanted to check. Just in case. I don't know if I have to make my own.

lt_linguist December 16 2009, 02:47:49 UTC
Yeah, I haven't seen any batteries, at least none that I recognize as batteries. I'll probably have to make some, if I can find the right components.

[Kurtis is at the item shop, too. He has been trying to make a communication device for a while, but he hasn't had much luck. He's looking at many of the same parts as Uhura.]

[And this is possibly one of the strangest beings Uhura has encountered in Luceti so far. Still, she glances at him briefly and goes back to her examination of items.]

Clearly I'm not alone in my quest. Are you trying to build a communication device, too?

[Kurtis looks up at Uhura.]

I've been trying to for several weeks now. I even met a robot with a built-in communication device, but her range was limited.

[She nods, a little.]

We'd need something with a long range, as long as we can get, really, if there's to be any chance of making contact outside the barrier.

[Spock will just be over here, doing a mental systematic inventory of parts.]

[And Uhura will let him do his thing, maybe handing him an item or two that are particularly interesting.]

Finding an antenna in this place will be like finding a needle in a haystack. Not that I think it would be much help, anyway.

[He may or may not be taking some of those items apart.]

As the Captain has stated, a different form of transmitter will be necessary. The alternative energy source can be unpredictable.

[Spock discards a sad looking wire box onto the reject pile.]

Are you familiar with the concept of "magic"?

lt_linguist December 16 2009, 14:02:02 UTC
[And she's now giving him a look which clearly indicates that "Spock" and "magic" don't belong in the same room together.]

Yes. What's the relevance?
