Closer to WHAT?! [LJ entry]

I've been further investigating the Internet to see what information is available on the other universes. As it turns out, there's much more to be learned than I would have ever imagined.

Those Star Trek fans really are quite something, aren't they?

I have always believed that pon farr is an extremely private matter. I am absolutely shocked that people would display it so openly like this, especially when it's not even their own experience to share! Mr. Nimoy, please tell me that you never showed Spock's pon farr on your television show for everybody to see...

Does that mean you want me to lie to you?

Ms. Moreau, we didn't have any concept of it being real. It was fiction to us, and the fans, thought up by our writers and directors with some input from the actors. I, for one, strongly insisted on highlighting the element of privacy involved in the pon farr, when the concept first made its way to us.

Had I known that it was reality for so many Vulcans, I quite likely would have refused participating in this storyline. But for all I knew, it was... an interesting dramatic concept that allowed me to explore depths and levels of my character that I hadn't been able to before.

I see. So you essentially said "This is a secret, don't tell anybody else!" while broadcasting it for the world to see.

It's all right, Mr. Nimoy, I don't hold it against you unless you want me to. You can hardly be blamed for not knowing it was true.

How much was shown on your television show, anyway? I gather from the opening hypothetical question in that video that that is not what really happened. What did happen? How explicit was it? And can I see video of that, too? I ask from a purely scientific interest, of course.
