miscommunications [paula/hikaru]

The last time Paula had had two days off in a row was so long ago she couldn't quite remember. Weeks ago, anyway, she thought as she let herself into her quarters and put her padd and communicator down on the table. She wandered over to the bed and sat down, tugging her boots off and wriggling her toes before flopping onto her back with a sigh. ( Read more... )

It was late, nearly midnight before Hikaru was relieved and finally left his shift. He thought about swinging by his room and changing clothes, but it was late already, and he didn't want Paula waiting any longer, so he just headed over.

Standing in front of the door to her room, he pressed the sensor, a small smile on his face as it opened and let him in. Taking two steps, he saw her look up from the sofa, and he felt something inside him relax when she returned his smile. "Hey there."

"Hi." It was good to see him, and that smile went a long way toward easing her concerns. Paula put her datapadd aside and stood up, crossing the distance between them to slide her arms around him. "I've missed you," she murmured, brushing her lips against his. "How was your shift?"

He looked tired, and Paula led him over to sit down. "Hungry?" One hand stroked down his arm, her fingers sliding over his as they twined together.

Paula in his arms was a very good thing, and all of a sudden the conversation with Jim was back in the front of his head. She was worth whatever it took, making this relationship between them work. He kissed her soft, smiling at the feel of her small hands in his.

"Missed you," he told her, meaning it. Paula had quickly become someone important to him, and going a few days without seeing her had altered his mood for the worse. "Shift was long, but good. Got some reports finished," he told her, walking toward the sofa. Falling down on it, he pulled her onto his lap playfully, holding her in his arms for a few moments.

"I don't want any food," he finally said, resting his head against hers. "Just want to hold you."

"Good," she murmured, and then let out a soft chuckle when he pulled her down onto his lap. Paula leaned into him, one arm sliding around his neck while her other hand stroked his hair. She had missed this so much, and from the look on his face Hikaru had too. "I'd like that," she agreed, enjoying the feel of his strong arms holding her close.

They had both been working so hard lately. Maybe that was all it was, they were both just tired and missing each other. "I'm off for the next two days, so I'm all yours," she said as she nestled against him. Paula's fingers traced the outline of his ear, her touch gentle and soothing.
