has anyone but me ever noticed that times are just way more interesting in 24-hour format than they are in regular old united-statesian 12-hour time? I just like the way numbers dance across clocks all day I suppose

running sucks, but at least I tend to improve quickly.
so, here's the catch from yesterday (after sampling about 25 used CDs at the counter!):
Jess Klein - Draw Them Near alt-country singer-songwriter stuff. Lots of pedal steel guitar and 6-string acoustic. Very dark, sultry voice. The stuff you might expect to hear walking into a bar on Broadway in Nashville on a Saturday night.
Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On I'm assuming you know more about these guys than I do. Everyone I know tells me about them. Semi-dark sparse guitar riffs over lots of cymbals and light drums. Driving, intense, but still restrained sound. Nice, nice stuff.
The Donnas - Spend The Night ok, now you should know this for sure. Girl-band, a little less dark and Indie than Sleater-Kinney, closer to straight up rock and roll. The songs all kinda sound the same, but they all rock, and I was sold on any band with the following lyrics: "I'm on my second drink, but I've had a few before. I'm trying hard to think, and I think that I want you on

Iron and Wine - Woman King (EP) Wonderful dark, melodic indie rock. Vocal harmonies and smooth, ethereal guitar sounds. But it's far from boring or sleepy. The Bass and Drums do a great job of moving the songs along, and the vocals and sharp, odd-shaped melodies are more than enough to keep your interest. yummy.

Yeah, Built To Spill are considered classics among the indie set. Gotta love 'em.
Ha...I'm glad you're happy with your Donnas discovery. Although I prefer SK, I like them, too.
I downloaded a few MM songs a year or so ago, but have no idea what album they're from, so I don't know if I've heard anything from this one or not.
And yes, Doolittle is amazing. I always really liked Trompe le Monde as well, but no one seems to agree with me on that one.
