I have to say I absolutely loved this movie. I have found the key to enjoying the Hobbit movies is go into it with the mindset that this is how the book would have been if it had been written for the same audience as LOTR. I'm not enough of a fan to know what was combed from the Appendices and other notes and what Jackson and his team wrote, but I

I have to say that the fact that Alfrid got away, with gold, was the most disappointing part of the movie. That little weasel should have had a fate like Wormtail. Maybe he will in the extended edition. Maybe we'll see him trying to escape the city and run into an Orc or goblin or something. But yes, way too much of him.

I was explaining that mindset to my SIL who is quite literary and prefers that movie adaptations remain pretty faithful to the book. I did go into the whole Hobbit experience with 'they made that book into two movies?' and then 'how on earth are they going to make it three?', but I think it was well executed.
