Sorry, I guess my post is snarkier in tone than I intended; it's not meant to be. At first glance I thought it was a montage of smaller images, as these things often appear, but not so... looks like they applied some kind of "stained glass window" type Photoshop effect (you know more aobut that wizardry than I do). But I take your point.
That was me, above, of course. It's appropriate there should be some form of observation of the mission in Afghanistan, but the way it is being handled (looks like a big, last-minute mess) and all the other things for veterans that should be going on but aren't, make me tired.
It's the benefits thing that kills me. A bunch of soldiers fighting "our" war were injured, and while I don't believe we should have gone to war in the first place, as a society we're responsible for ensuring that they're taken care of. Instead, they get massively screwed over by this supposedly pro-military government, who then hold a big fancy commemoration in an attempt to make everyone forget that they did that.
(I know I'm preaching to the converted here; I just find it so enraging.)
