L'Jèrriais.

I've spent some time today listening to 'La Lettre Jèrriaise', a weekly audio postcard in the island's own language broadcast by BBC Radio Jersey. Originally 'heard' on Saturday at 2pm, it lasts for 3 minutes 19 seconds.

By dint of listening very hard (through headphones!) repeatedly and trying to work out what the heck she's saying, I think I have the gist of it.

Sort of.

Trying to translate what the pâler is saying when you've no access to a transcript, very little knowledge of how certain words sound, (Do I assume St Ouen pronunciation? Even how they say things varies between parishes! Another headache for the learner!) and only 'O' level French plus Birt's notes in 'Lé Jèrriais Pour Tous' to guide you is...

I can't think of a word that encompasses the feeling.

I wish I knew a pâler willing to help me learn. Iun d'ches quat' matîns. Pouor achteu...
À la préchaine!
