In a fitful attempt to ease Mel into the Thelemic world; I've spent the last hour or two reading the first few chapters of My Life With The Spirits aloud to her.

I now have a new-found respect for parents who read bedtime stories to their kids.

I quickly discovered that I read far faster than my mouth can go, and tried to ease my agony with green ( Read more... )

Good choice for Thelemic intro.

For inducing drowsiness I recommend anything by E. Wallis Budge.

Thank you, thank you!! If I were new to the subject it's the book I'd want to read (or hear someone read aloud despite their obvious agony!)
You've tried to read dear old Wallis, too, eh?? ; D You poor soul! AE Waite reads like Judy Blume after you've tried Budge!!
"Brew another pot and keep 'em coming! I've got to get through 'The Egyptian Book of the Dead' tonight!!" My copy actually has the coffee stains that are all that remains of those daring souls who tried.

The Book of the Dead is the very sleeping pill to which I'm reffering.

For as lost as I occasionally get in Crowley's work, it is always fun to read. "'Solvitur Ambulando' which does not mean 'Call the Ambulance!'"

What a wise-ass.

Maybe Budge should've named it "The Egyptian Book of You'll Wish You Were Dead"??
Terrible terrible joke! ; D
Yeah, that's just one of the many things to love about our Aleister: he really was a riot sometimes... Plus he had that sense of adventure, and a healthy sense of humor about his sense of adventure.
He was always claiming to eat his coolies and marrying Rose so she could run off with another man and making people hunt haggis... Good times, all!! : D
And he makes Egypt do what it needs to do:
ROCK!
