the way it should be

A Brother and I were discussing the matter of his rather sceptical ex-girlfriend fairly recently.  He brought out the point that "She would never accept that Thelema is the way things should be..."
I thought it was interesting that he framed it in such a way;  I tend to think that most people, without having any idea that either we or Thelema even ( Read more... )

The path that each one of us takes to get there is never the same for each individual. The systems that are set down are only rough guidelines for us to follow until we figure out what road we are to take. Taking college classes is no different than doing a ritual, we are transforming our minds and our environments.

Just because someone doesn't choose to accept that their path is filled with strange rituals done by people dressed in robes doesn't mean that they are not fufilling their True Will. If you force someone to follow a particular path that they are not inclined to follow, you are doing the greatest of all sins, restricting their True Will from progressing in the way that it is to happen.

I think that Brother should meditate on what True Will really is and how it can manifest in different people instead of worrying about trying to convert his ex-girlfriend.

Very well put, indeed!!
Essentially, the only thing she probably had any beef with was the trappings. Crowley goes to great lengths in Magick in Theory and Practice to hint that there are many routes one can take. A pen is as magick a wand as any, after all.
It ended up being good food for my thought, so I thought I should write about it since it set up some cross-cultural resonances that really struck a chord with me.

"She would never accept that Thelema is the way things should be..."

Why should things be any particular way?

Everyone is bound to react to reality in their own way.

What might be right for you, may not be right for some

Part of the appeal of Thelema, to me, has been it's somewhat isolated nature.

Same here but lonelygirl15 just fucked that up. Every asshole and their grandmother is going to be "Thelemic" now.

Yippee.

3rd time's the charm...
My best guess is that little will change except some people might be exposed to 93 that wouldn't have been in any other way. Granted, I would rather this happen in a more accurate way. I've watched perhaps two videos now and kept wondering: "People thought this was REAL??" It looks quite a bit like Mtv.
Anyway, I noticed some people I recognized from LJ getting in there and fighting the good fight; sending links to actual accurate information and dispelling a few of the multitude of misconceptions that keep springing up.
I suppose we'll have to wait it out like everybody else; It seems they're going to keep making these videos up until the Dramatic Conclusion.

I tend to think that most people, without having any idea that either we or Thelema even exist, do spend a considerable portion of their time trying to work their Will (or what they may erringly perceive to be their Will).

I think A. C. spent a great deal of ink going on about how tricky and difficult it is to get to the kernel of what one's True Will actually is.

"She would never accept that Thelema is the way things should be..."

I think that Thelema presents us with a diagram of the way things actually are, how we feel about that picture is "on us."

Definitely! The True Will is slippery because it's in perpetual motion ( ... )

I think that many people both within and outside of the order have only vague, or decidedly erroneous conceptions of what A.C. outlines in his writings regarding the H.G.A., the methods one may employ on the arduous journey to knowledge of one's True Will, and just how difficult all this can be expected to be.

With your second point I'm reminded of how Crowley tried to ignore the Book of the Law for several years...
It seems like several very different things to either accept the truth flatly, or to run from the truth, or think "that's how it should be" (just not yet, please), or lastly and most importantly to actively engage in it.
