I just bought a Tivo device and I am looking forward to using it. The problem though is that it requires a phone line to download its software--which I don't have. So I went to the office to use that phone line and download the software, only to find out after downloading it that it required 4 hours of "processing" to complete. I left and came ( Read more... )

Actually, it probably came with 5.x - 5.3 or 5.4 most likely. If it did a download on the first call, even after processing, it doesn't upgrade until rebooted. In the network screen it will say 'Pending Restart' if it has a pending upgrade to apply. It normally waits until 2AM to do this automatically so as not to disrupt users in normal service.

Depending on the network adapter you're using, you can setup networking without 7.x. You'd only need to get that upgrade if you're using an adapter that didn't have drivers added until then - like the TiVo branded adapter. (Which is the best WiFi adapter to use.)

80GB + DVD would be the Humax DRT800. You'll have full access to TiVoToGo, Home Media Engine, Yahoo, Fandango, and Live365 features, music and photos, web based scheduling, etc - all the network features.
