[ Continued from here]As Chihaya attempted to move, he felt his legs give out as the darkness rolled over him. It was as if he could not hear for a second, could not see...a roar of darkness surrounding his senses as he felt a tug at his heart ( Read more... )

"Chihaya!" Oboro's response was automatic, instinctive. He went down to his knees and grabbed hold of the other man's shoulders. The air around him went chill with dread, and for a dreadful moment the crisp, acrid scent of Heartless filled the air. In that moment his eyes roamed the streets for attackers.

One hand flew to the scabbards at his belt, but instead of either of his paired blades, his instincts chose to draw his Brother's steel fan. When Oboro returned to his senses, stomach no longer contorted in blind terror, he found he has spread the steel fan before himself and Chihaya like a shield. No attackers ever appeared, and suddenly he felt both foolish and confused. "I, ah... do you know what just happened...?"

"I...don't know," said Chihaya, wiping his eyes from the tears that had suddenly appeared in his eyes. He noted that Oboro had been ready to attack, which was probably a good thing. Chihaya was ashamed to say that he had acted very foolishly.

With a deep breath, Chihaya pulled himself together. "It felt like...people were dying. Could it be, perhaps that...that our homes perished?" He felt a bit of panic rise within him when he thought about his lover, and how he was no longer certain if he would ever see him again. He had to remain calm and believe that if he had gotten here, then so could Kagetsuya.

"No. We have to believe that things are all right, or that we can make them right. Otherwise, we don't have any hope."

Chihaya's rattled sound didn't sit well with Oboro. He had been worried enough as it was. "The darkness has grown stronger, we know that much... it means we're running out of time." He folded and clipped the steel fan back to his belt. Then he stood, lowering a hand to help Chihaya up. "Someone who can help us has to be here... or can be found from here. We need to start looking." Oboro imagined he must sound calmer than he felt.
