True to L's nature, he was falling into a cycle of reclusivity. Since Matt had left, especially, he'd had a difficult time thinking of reasons to put himself "out there", so to speak. Unmotivated and bored, he'd kept going to work as an engineer just to pay the rent on the house. He was actually toying with the idea of moving to an apartment, since he was living alone and incapable of caring for a house or the grounds. The only times his yard looked decent were actually during Distortions, when everything else went to hell, too.

It would have been a lie to say that he was completely alone, though. He had adopted a white cat, and though it was lanky and odd-looking, it was oddly affectionate and actually a pretty good cat for a lonely recluse. When he heard Ciel's knock, it occured to him that he actually liked the idea of letting someone else meet her. He opened the door, staring down at the shorter boy ( ... )

Ciel gave a crooked smile, and though his smiles nearly always look menacing, he was genuinely happy to see the fellow detective. "Yes, far to long." Ciel agreed, quickly slipping inside. "There seems to be quite a bit of beasts out this evening." He had ran out of bullets half way to the house and had to rely on stealth to make it the rest of the way. He was glad he had gotten better at dodging the monsters early on.

"How have you been this past month?" The earl asked once he was safely inside, no longer at threat of the demons outside. With a small shiver he dusted off some of the snow that had drifted onto him during the walk. He was cold and a bit battered, but was glad enough to see Ryuzaki was still around to complain much. "Been quite busy?"

"Busy?" L asked languidly, as if it was supposed to be some sort of joke. "No. Actually, I haven't been. Everyone else from my world is gone, my job is monotonous, and I've seen little reason to leave my home. It's even been awhile since I've seen Kiddy."

He perched in a chair, reaching for the teacup that always seemed to be within arm's reach no matter where L was sitting. "How do you like my cat? She's probably the most interesting thing to happen lately in my life. So, now that it's been established that I've been lacking in both deeds and motivation, why don't you tell me what's transpired concerning yourself. That young man who violated you... I hope nothing further has happened."

"I suppose I can say much the same." Ciel nodded absently, sitting down in a chair facing L. He thinks on the other's words for a moment, nodding. "I have not see Kiddy round work recently. I do wonder where she went off too." Having worked with Kiddy in the police station even he had begun to wonder where the lady went ( ... )
