Welcome to our new arrivals. The first half of each month, for as long as I remember, has been identifiable as a time when several newcomers to Luceti appear. This is now widely referred to as the New Feather cycle, though it's only a term coined within the last two years

Thank you, Albert. I've felt like I was missing something since I got here. But what about those people outside of the barrier? If we can't talk to them, how do we know they're there?

We know they are there because two different sources, with no known shared objectives, have acknowledged their presence. It's not an exact science, but it's more than believing this barrier is the extent of this world.

I wonder if they're doing as well as we are or if they're other Filial. At least we know that there are others but it'd be better if we could find a way to talk with them. There's too many questions and not enough answers. I don't understand why they take our powers if we're powerless against them anyway.

That would be another goal then, though we have no way to begin tackling it.

And, though we cannot know for sure, I have an idea that the reduction of our powers is not intentional, but a side effect. But there certainly has to be a reason for it. Like you said, too many questions and not enough answers.

Hmm... I see. This is all very intriguing.

You mentioned certain "shifts" that have influenced the Malnosso's experiments. Could you elaborate on that?

The Shifting is an inexplicable change to this world, to the environment, that is not really visible to those in the barrier. There have apparently been numerous shifts that the Malnosso have noted -- "billions," according to Jacob. The shifts add another variable to the experiments that the Malnosso cannot change, complicating their research.

So while the environment is kept completely stable inside this barrier, the outside is far from peaceful?

We don't know that. But something certainly has to be different outside to warrant the barrier in the first place.

It seems to be another random process, and one that we cannot affect.

Anything is possible. We do not even know if they would help or hinder us if they knew of our situation.

"Most of the people who wind up here are kind people." Perhaps the opposite is going on outside of the barrier.

I find it hard to believe that they would not notice the barrier, considering its fluctuation and growth within the last year. From our perspective, our world grew a little larger with the barrier extending out into the desert. From their perspective, a portion of their world was lost.

It's entirely possible that those outside could see our desire to get out of the barrier as a threat.

And at the center of all of it is the "Force" that they all have continually mentioned.

I presume you mean the anomaly that continues to bring people into this world.

In speaking with Jacob, however, he confided it is not a being. It claimed it was something more akin to a force, though he refused to elaborate further.

Of course. To think that a being would continue drawing people into this world for centuries would be to place all of the changes thus far to a single being's whim. It's a very dangerous line of thinking.

The anomaly is likely the source of the Shifts that occur as well.
