[The transmission is voiced, taking place during the evening of the 28th.]I'm sure everyone is still disconcerted by what has happened, but there are a few things that should be addressed ( Read more... )

[When Robert's tone is more normal, he tries to respond to this.]

I... made extensive n-notes and compiled data r-regarding my experiences. I happen to have a r-rather sharp memory, and so... I r-remember an inordinate amount of what occurred, both during the past t-ten days and of some of the background involving that... f-fictional account of our lives. Though it... d-does not extend too far outside my own experiences, I w-would be... most willing to share the data I have... a-accumulated.

I am not sure if this was... an i-isolated incident, but my fictional life was... superficially similar to my actual life. It s-seemed to me as though there was a general overall a-attempt made to keep my memories cohesive, p-perhaps to maintain my subconscious belief in the s-scenario...

However, there w-were many differences... the most notable o-one being a complete erasure of... of any T-Terran knowledge I had. [Can you hear the absolute horror in his voice, there?] My n-nanocomputer was also taken for the duration of the experiment... th- ( ... )

I can't speak for anyone else, but my "fictional life" was nothing like my actual one. Our alternate lives were based on our current surroundings rather than the places we originally came from, unlike the last one of these.

Did the person with Sir Catherine say anything interesting?

[That's more for curiosity's sake than anything else. He had missed the opportunity to converse with them himself.]

Depends wh-what you mean by "interesting"...

Overall, I w-would not say so. She likely was... under orders to k-keep her topics relatively mundane.

I can relate s-specifics of our conversation if you would like...

[Robert realizes he's never heard this voice before.]

May I enquire as to... whom I am speaking with?

Caesar Silverberg. Nice to meet ya.

I wouldn't be so surprised. But I'll listen to anything you're willing to share.

And I am... Professor Robert Alexander Hastings. L-Likewise, it is a pleasure to meet you.

[He's mostly got the shake in his voice under control, now.]

... We initially discussed the electrical equipment of the festival and what counted as being 'in order' - and...

... Well.

The subject of difference came up, a-and... when I enquired as to whether she was "different", she stated that she was not...

I then shared my name with her.

... That is essentially the extent of the conversation, though... I-I could retrieve specific details, assuming I remembered or... was aware of them.

Different from us?

[Hmm. It really was a shame that people only ran into them during that experiment.]

Not quite.

... Just, different. [Robert uncomfortably struggles for a way to convey this concept.]

... Non-neurotypical, perhaps? Outside of the norm? Perceived in a manner apart from others?

Though I suppose the question is so broad that it could be easily taken in a different manner.

It is a little vague. [But it wasn't too uninteresting. Maybe he's a little curious about it.]

Thanks for your input, sir.

You are... quite welcome...

Do you have anything else you would like to ask, perhaps...?

[He isn't sure what else would even be helpful to know.]

Nope. Not at the moment, anyway. I'm just a little disappointed I couldn't speak with them myself.

Were you perhaps not in the area at the time? [Robert doesn't remember seeing Caesar beyond, perhaps, brief recollections of him being at the very edge of the festival.

He remembers wondering if Caesar as as lonely as he had been.]

I seem to recall you generally avoiding the festival grounds...

[O-oh jeez. Had he really stood out that much...? What an embarrassing experiment.]

I'm not a big fan of festivals. Guess I wasn't in that other life, either. But no, I was not in the area at the time.

[Robert's just observant, so he remembers little details like this. And somebody socially-phobic, or seemingly so, draws his attention.]

Ah, well, that would explain it.

... Perhaps it would be possible to... contact them, but I doubt they would be willing to reveal anything useful.

They usually aren't. But that's not important.

Thanks again.
