night of the 25th/26th (orz dream tl;dr) imatreenow April 26 2011, 08:12:09 UTC
[The content of the dreams wasn't the strange part, at least not the first night. Heroic battles against fantastic creatures, flying through the air on iridescent wings: fairly standard dream fare. Yet there was something...different about it, something he couldn't place ( ... )

[The sound of the loom weaving is the first thing that hits the air when Mithos opens the bedroom door; like usual, Sayo's sitting in front of it, looking every once in a while out the open window to her right, returning to her repetitive work that she seems to find comfort in...

She turns toward the creak of the door and the soft call of her son's voice, and smiles in the dimmed candlelight.]

Oh, Mithos...

[The sound of the weaving loom has always been comforting to him, and he's relieved to see his mother unharmed, but it almost makes the final chilling images of his nightmare even worse. How could he, even if it was just in a dream.....?

He remains silent until he's crossed the room and sat down by her, head resting on her shoulder and knees drawn halfway to his chest. His voice is a whisper despite there not being anyone else in the apartment to wake up with conversation.]

A dream. I had a bad dream.

[She pauses and turns, confused-because how long has it been since she's dreamed, herself...? It makes her feel guilty, to not know what it is that has her son so quiet and low-spirited. After a beat, she frowns and puts a hand on his knee, thoughtful in countanence.]

A dream?

[He welcomes the reassuring, motherly gesture. The way things are supposed to be, like they always are and always will be; that's what he has to keep wiring through his mind right now. A calming breath, but it ends up a little shaky.]

Mom, you-- ...I hurt you. You were laying on the ground.

[Another silent, motherly gesture, as she pulls him close to her at that; her voice is calm, soothing, understanding.]

It was just a dream, Mithos... I know you'd never hurt me.

[He tries to focus on her comforting warmth and words.]

I know it was just a dream, but...it was so... [He struggles to find the right word to describe it. Vivid? Real? That thought scares him. Instead, he tries to describe the specifics, even though revisiting the dream through words is doing nothing to alleviate the unease.]

You looked so scared, down on the ground. And...I was relieved that you were afraid of me. I remember being furious about something; that's why I hi-- [He can't say it. It's like a punch in the gut, or maybe the heart.] --why you fell down.

[My poor boy, seeing such awful things; she'd fix it all if she could, make that sort of dream never possible. It must've been frightening...]

... You can't control your dreams. Sometimes, they're about the things we don't want to happen, aren't they? [she gives his shoulder a reassuring little squeeze] Have you been having a lot of nightmares lately...?

I guess that makes sense... [this is an attempt to sound more certain than he feels. Nightmares are supposed to be scary, but something about this one shakes him more deeply than that and he doesn't know why.]

Not...nightmares, exactly. Not until tonight. I've been having weird dreams since a few night ago.

Weird? How so?

[She quietly scans his profile to read whatever he may be feeling, her own concern sloppily masked as curiosity. It wasn't very usual for him to come in in the middle of the night with these sorts of problems...]
