[Mithos wakes up stuck somewhere between feeling that he was exactly where he should be and knowing that everything about this was absolutely wrong. Pieces of the preceding days crowd his mind, jostling against the truth, creating friction. Overwhelming.

Infuriating.

His first reaction is to rip out those memories and feelings, crumple them up, and never look at them again. Too bad forgetting the past isn't his forte. It digs into him, permanently.

After dressing and securing his sword (at least he had the sense to still have that), he looks around the room at the remaining possessions he'd brought. There's nothing in which to carry them, so he decides to just leave everything else. His only thought is to get out of here as quickly as possible.

He steps out of his-- no, the room, posture and gait stiff.]

[When he walks out, she's standing there in the hall, frozen--truly afraid, afraid of someone who she... These memories... She can only stare, eyebrows furrowed, trapped in place by some invisible force. And then her fear is replaced by a pained expression. Like someone who's watched their loved one kill someone in cold blood.

...It's the way it was.

Almost pleading:]

... Mithos...

[He stops the instant he sees her. He just wants to run and pretend none of this ever happened, but here she is right in front of him, and all he can see is the woman he had cherished so dearly for ten days. The same one who had loved him in return, whose mere presence could bring him comfort. Those reassuring, gentle, motherly gestures and that tender warmth. A...mother...

He frowns harshly, violently pushing all those thoughts away. She's just a filthy, worthless human; he doesn't need her. He doesn't need anyone. Just Martel... Martel is the only family he has, and the only family he needs. Disgust rises inside of him. He could almost retch at the thought. This is her fault.]

Stay away from me.

[She reaches her hand out, hopeless for it to mean anything to him, that anguished expression remaining. These memories are blurring to closely together, that the sight of his anger just breaks her heart asunder.]

... I'm sorry...

[Please stop looking at me like that...]

[He viciously swats the offered hand away. More broken images from the week flip though his memory. Love. Happiness. Acceptance. It's too much. He's already past the tipping point, beyond ready to lash out like a cornered animal.]

Don't touch me! I don't want you anywhere near me.

[She draws her hand back to her chest, and before she can stop them, there are tears welling in her eyes. Hate. Sorrow. Rejection. The opposite of those happy images--she sees it, all of it.]

I didn't mean for this... but I....

[I loved every moment of being with you and the others. I loved it so much...]

Please, calm down; don't--

[Don't what? Don't leave? Don't hate me? Don't be angry? She's not sure what to say.]

[Her tears only fan his anger. He doesn't understand. It's like she cares, but he knows she doesn't. She's the same as every other human who never cared about him and would do what they could to hurt him in the end. The previous days were only a manipulation of this cursed world, so why does she pretend to care?]

Don't what? [he unknowingly echoes her thoughts, but contrasting sharply in its malignancy.] I refuse to listen to anything a human has to say.

You are absolutely nothing to me. [Tacked on because he needs to make sure she understands just how much he hates her. Maybe it's part overcompensation right now.]

Even if I don't mean anything, I just want to help...

[What else can she do? She can't turn him away. She couldn't have, even before this shift. So now...

In a lower voice]

I care about you, even if you don't want to listen to me.

Shut up! [He shoves her with all the force he can muster.] No you don't! You're lying, so just shut up! The only way you can help me is by disappearing forever!

[Attempting to regain equilibrium, back to how it should be and will always be. Just push her as far away as possible and put himself in lock-down. It's the only way. The kindness he showed then...is something meant only for Martel or Kaori, the people who understand and accept him - never anyone else, and especially not any humans.]

[She stumbles back, but manages to keep herself up by leaning against the wall. It reminds her, quietly, about the night he'd peaked into her room--alone, worried, looking for her comfort.]

I'm not!

[desperate now]

Even if it was all fake, it ending hasn't changed anything--I still care!

You expect me to believe the words of a filthy human?

[His hand lashes out to strike her across the face. He wants nothing more than to pummel her out of existence.]

You humans never do anything but lie!

[She finds herself leaned against the wall again, reeling from an all-too-familiar hit. But before, where there was nothing but blind shock, confusion, there's only sadness and a flinching fear that somehow bids her to talk still.]

I don't--I wouldn't lie to you. Because...

[I can't say it. I have no right to.

Her cheek and lip burns hotly under her hand, but she can't just leave it at that.]

Don't push people away, Mithos. Don't push me away...

[Suddenly he realizes: why does it matter if she's lying? It's not like he cares that it was all a fabrication. He doesn't need her to care about him; he doesn't need her love to be truth. It doesn't matter.]

Why shouldn't I? You don't understand anything. Nobody does. I don't want anything to do with you, or anyone, so stop trying to convince me otherwise. What a joke! Just leave me alone.

[The final sentence is punctuated with another violent shove, though there's nowhere for her to go with the wall behind her. His unrelenting glare lingers on her for another moment before he stalks off.]

[He stops short when he comes to the end of the hallway, which leads to the main room of the apartment. The table, set for breakfast. Set for two people. He doesn't know why this grasps his attention enough to freeze him in his tracks. Something about it feels whole, yet incomplete at the same time. A pang in his heart. But why? It doesn't matter. He doesn't care. So why does he feel like something is tearing at him inside?]

[She turns slowly to the boy behind her, and then with the wall at one hand, walks until she's a few beats away; she couldn't help the welling tears, so she couldn't help when they finally pour over her cheeks.]

I was... going to make something for you...

[Was. And then the memories flooded back and she realized it was all impossible. He would walk away, storm away... She trembles when she realizes why it seems to hurt that much more, so see him go, to stand in that apartment by herself again-]

I didn't want to be alone...

[He snaps back to earth at the sound of her voice. He doesn't turn around, but the anger returns to his features. Alone? What did she know about being alone? He'd had no one for four thousand years after Martel was taken away. Even those whom he had considered companions, who were supposed to be behind him, had turned their backs. The whole world had abandoned him. --No, that had happened even before Martel's death; the world had forsaken his kind from the start. What could she understand?]

Shut up.

[The sight of the table, the sound of her voice, the words. They all claw into him, scratching against something, ripping it open. And he hates it.]

Shut up! [In one swift motion, the sword is drawn out and sent slicing through the table. He watches the dishes slide off the uneven surfaces of each half, crashing and clattering to the ground, before whirling around to face Sayo. The sword remains lowered by his side, tip pointing to the ground, but the hateful look he gives her is as frightening as staring down the wrong end of a ( ... )
