[Zack'll be out and about in the forest, looking like he's right at home, though pointedly less happy-go-lucky on the battlefield than back in the village. He'll try to stick to other people as much as possible - for mutual defense - though sometimes you just can't help getting separated.

His main goal is to take down as many enemies as possible with his sword and the materia he picked up at the dorms, so if you see a huge meteor headed your way, you should probably duck and cover.]

[Sora'd assigned himself the task of trying to back up anybody who breaks away or gets separated, which is probably why Zack might notice a fellow spiky head running his direction-- flying meteors is why one has Quick Run.]

[Near Zack is probably the safest place to be when materia spells are being cast, so it's a smart move. Zack glances back as Sora approaches, relaxing slightly as he recognizes his fellow fighter.]

Hey, Sora! Didn't know you were in my neck of the woods. You doing okay?

[soracles]

Hanging in there... [he rolls his shoulder, gripping his Keyblade tightly. he'll stick close by, if it means he runs less risk of being hit by a wayward Materia spell.]

What about you? I've got cure spells if you need 'em.

[wingenvy]

I'm good for now, but I'll remember that when they start getting too close. [Zack lifts a hand to shield his eyes from the sun, glancing around for more of the enemy.] They like to hide in the bushes, don't they?

[Which is a good reason to burn it all down with Meteors, as pretty as it is...]

[soracles]

No kidding. This the kinda stuff you're used to back home, Zack?

[wingenvy]

More or less. Though it's been a while since I was in a forest like this. [Geez, it even smells like home.] I think we're safe for a bit.

[soracles]

There's time to regroup then. [and Sora's always prepared! he pauses, pats his pockets momentarily- there is indeed a reason he has a zillion of them- then produces wrapped sandwiches and small bottles of water.]

[leave it to Sora to have a picnic in the middle of a warzone, but this isn't atypical of him either. keeping one's strength up is important-- he holds one of the sandwiches out to Zack.]

Yeah, we should rest while we can. [Zack takes the sandwich gratefully, sinking his broadsword into the mud and leaning against a tree.] Thanks, man. At least someone's prepared!

[Truth be told, he'd sort of ditched his pack in a tree awhile back. He can always find it later, but it'd been slowing him down too much.]

[soracles]

No problem! Not about to let a friend go hungry.

[Sora dismisses the Keyblade, about ready to dig into his own sandwich. he hates having to fight in this war to begin with, and he's not exactly hungry, but it's either fight or be killed. eat or slow down and be killed.]

This isn't your first draft, huh Zack?

[wingenvy]

[Zack needs a moment to get past the whole Keyblade-disappearing thing- no matter how many times he sees it, the coolness just doesn't get old.]

...Actually, this is my first! Well, first time fighting in Luceti, anyway. Back home I did a lot of fighting in a different war, so I'm kind of used to it.

[Well, ignoring the fact that it was six years ago, but those kinds of memories don't go away.]

[soracles]

This isn't my first war either... [with the exception of Xigbar, however, there were no guns. just the remnants of people-- the only reason it was easy to see them as not human was because, by that point, they weren't. Sora huffs a tired little sigh, staring down at his sandwich.]

[wingenvy]

[Geez, what's with all these kids getting stuck in wars? It's damn unfair. Zack frowns, taking a big bite and chewing thoughtfully for a moment.]

You know how the saying goes- what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? So once we make it through this, there's no reason to feel bad about surviving another war. No regrets for living!

[He refuses to even consider the idea that they won't make it. That's just ridiculous.]

[soracles]

-- Right! We'll just have to stick together so we can both get back home safe. Deal?

[wingenvy]

Deal! And we'll be sure to protect anyone else on our side that we meet up with, too.

[look, he'll even raise a hand for a fistbump. it's... nice, being able to take a break and partially forget that he's in the jungle trying to live just long enough to make it home. at least he's here with a friend.]
