Day 2?

[This ninja scout is crouched down, studying a trail left by some Shift Hunters. He may not have noticed the large panther stalking him from behind.]

[Oh, damn.]

[Don pops up from behind the cat to fire the weapon he had in the dorms at one of the Shift Hunters. The beast immediately floats into the air, looking confused and enraged. Don ducks back down to continue his medical ministrations.]

See? Shift Hunters!

I can see that. [Floating Hunter, check. So the weapon's not particularly lethal. But the turtle can more than hold his--

What is he doing? Karai doesn't take the time to throw more than a disbelieving glance Don's way. The bow isn't efficient enough, and they already know she's here besides; she drops out of the tree, swords out and flashing in an attempt to cut down one of the beasts as it lunges for her.

The last pair split their attention, one following the lead of the first, and the other swinging away from the fight with a growl, leaping instead for Don.]

I don't get to use that icon enough

So why are you - [Don loses track of the question as the Shift Hunter charges him. Tying off a last bandage, he slaps the cat's flank.] Go!

[And the panther leaps into battle, engaging the nearest Hunter and killing it in a matter of seconds with a vicious bite to the throat. Don fires his weapon again, slamming the floating Hunter back to the ground, where he finishes it with a blow to the head.]

[Two down, two to go.]

[One to go; Karai's katana has found its mark, biting deep between throat and shoulder and sending the Hunter sprawling at her feet. Her second katana scythes out to hit the second as it leaps, but it's already too close-- there's a splatter of blood as she wounds it, and then Karai falls under its weight, protecting her face from its teeth with her elbow. Ow. Give her a second.]

[Don shoots this Hunter too, lifting it off Karai. Leaving the panther to finish it, he cautiously approaches his wounded enemy.]

Are you okay?

[honorbeforeall]

I am fine. [She snaps back the reply, because who gave you permission to show concern, turtle? >| But she rolls easily to her feet, inspecting the damage herself with a wince. An amateur's mistake; she's lucky it wasn't worse. Deep enough to draw blood and be a painful nuisance, but the bone is intact. More evenly, as she glances at the panther:] I did not realise you were so good with animals.

[Don holsters his bo and glances at the cat, which is prowling among the dead Shift Hunters and paying little attention to the two draftees.]

Maybe sometime you should ask questions first and shoot later.

[honorbeforeall]

Maybe next time, I will not bother. [Temper flaring, oh yes. Not only did she help an enemy but he didn't need the help in the first place. She feels like an idiot. Karai stalks to the base of the tree and collects her bow from the ground.]

[Satisfied that the Hunters are dead, the panther returns to Don's side, winding itself around his legs and fixing Karai with a feline glare.]

... Thanks for the help.

[Maybe he didn't need it; maybe she injured an innocent animal; but he's pretty sure her intentions were good.]

[Predictably there is no response. Karai vanishes into the treetops without another word.]
