Whenever Giles is at Good Spirits? \o/ semper_cogitans June 13 2011, 18:16:53 UTC
[Did somebody say Good Spirits? Because that's a place that Robert happens to be - for once in his life, and willingly at that. He's carrying around a half-full glass of something, though it's clear Robert isn't paying much attention to the drink - he's here to talk and be socially competent, thank you very much.

Which is why he immediately approaches Giles when he sees him, smiling with a brightness very uncharacteristic of him, and gives a very easy, natural-looking wave.]

Hey, Giles! Glad to see you around; it's been too long since we've spoken. [Robert gestures to a seat conveniently near Giles.] Is this seat taken, or do you mind if I give you some company for awhile?

[Giles looks around when he hears his name...

...wait, is that Robert?

Wow, doesn't he look...peppy, and alert, and...sociable. But, hey, Giles isn't one to judge. It's a good look for him. So he smiles, nods, and indicates the seat in quesetion.]

Not a bit. Take a seat.

[Yes, Giles. This is Robert. This is Robert... if he'd somehow managed to magically stop being autistic. And Giles looks sociable too! Though Robert can actually tell, for once, what his expression means (but he just attributes that to his conquering of autism).]

Thanks! [Robert eases himself down into the seat with a decidedly wide grin.] So how've things been lately? I've seen you around the shops quite a bit - spiffing up the apartment? [What "the apartment" is supposed to imply - because, y'know, Robert can actually imply things now - is kind of up in the air. Robert may not explicitly know that Giles isn't living with Helios and Frederic right now, but unlike his non-autistic self, he doesn't have to be explicitly told to be able to infer it from what Giles is doing.

Still, he's being cheerful about it in the hopes that it will make Giles cheerful too.]

This is awesome, what are you talking about? consultmybooks June 13 2011, 20:34:15 UTC
Oh, yes. Finally came to my senses just this morning - Frederic's probably not going to come around any time soon, so I might as well make the new place livable.

[It only briefly crosses his mind that Robert still probably doesn't know that he was kicked out. But, hey, why shouldn't he share? Robert will find out eventually, and he did ask.

...the cheerfulness does help the whole situation seem to hurt less than it does, that is true. Come to think of it, Giles is quite proud of what he's gotten together today. He takes another sip of his drink and returns Robert's grin.] You should stop by some time.

[Robert, of course, takes this news in stride - he's already inferred it, after all, and the best thing to do in this social situation is to be bright and cheerful and sociable.] I'm sure Frederic'll calm down soon enough, and in the meantime you've got a great place all to yourself!

... Though, that can get a bit lonely. If you need a roommate or something, I'm always willing. [Well, now he's always willing. A couple of weeks ago, he freaked out at the idea.] Or I can help you out with getting the place looking lived-in. Or we could even have some kind of homewarming party or something! [Robert smiles excitedly, just thinking about it. He could invite all his friends and it'd be a blast!]

It's nice enough. All the apartments are the same, when you get right down to it. Makes it a bit easier to navigate, at least.

[Giles does seriously consider Robert's suggestion. Eventually, he settles for a shrug.]

Nice of you to offer, Robert, but I don't think we'd make very good roommates. I'd appreciate any other help you'd be willing to pitch in, though.

And I wouldn't say no to a party...

[What an exciting and totally not unusual thought. Yes, a housewarming party. Good going, Robert!]

[Robert nods understandingly at this.] Hey, no problem. And living by myself makes it a lot easier to decide when to throw parties. [Because obviously he's totally thrown parties before.]

I'd definitely be willing to help you with anything else, though! Including setting a party up. [He smirks a little.] You guys could probably use one, after all. Heck, I think the village could use one.

... But I don't think we could fit the whole village in your apartment, so I might have to settle on a shorter guest list.

[Though he'd seriously consider inviting the whole village in this state.]

You've thrown a party before, then? [Smiling in bemusement, Giles drains a bit more of his cocktail.] Well, that puts you a step up over me. I'd be happy for the help, Robert.

...remember that it is an apartment, though. The entire village couldn't fit, not unless we...did some serious reworking of the laws of physic, actually.

[Hm...well, it would be a shame to leave anyone out, so...]

You know, Helios could probably help with that...

I only ever got to use it once before this event :[ He does NOT make that face much semper_cogitans June 14 2011, 04:20:57 UTC
[Technically, he never has, but...] Hey, it's not too hard! And if we get all our friends involved it makes the work that much easier.

... Unfortunately, you're right about that. But maybe... [There's a twinkle - an actual twinkle - in Robert's eye at that.] Helios does tend to be good at that sort of thing.

[Oh great. Now Robert and Giles want Helios to turn the apartment into a TARDIS so that they can have a party.

... This experiment is awesome.]

Hey, the "Successful Human Interaction" face is getting more use than it has all last month. consultmybooks June 14 2011, 04:24:28 UTC
[Giles is nodding thoughtfully, almost enthusiastically, as Robert continues laying out his plans. Suddenly, he snaps his fingers and looks up to face Robert with the most triumphant smile on his face.]

...I know a man with a box.

A box that I'm told is bigger on the inside than on the outside. If we could get him to get it into my apartment...

...I don't think he'd mind. He seems the sort of person who would agree to something like that. Energetic, peppy sort of person. [Rather like you're behaving right now, Robert.] He can bring the biscuits, too.

Successful human interaction is successful? (I really need to make LOLGiles memes one of these days) semper_cogitans June 14 2011, 04:28:47 UTC
[It only takes a second to click, and then...] Do you maybe mean the Doctor? An absolutely wonderful person, from what I saw of him so far. I do remember him asking about a "box", when he first arrived.

That would be a fantastic idea - it'd solve most of our problems and give us somebody to invite!

[Surely this won't backfire hideously.]

At the moment? Very much so. consultmybooks June 14 2011, 04:31:46 UTC
The Doctor. [Giles nods eagerly.] He found it, a few weeks ago. Ranka Lee says it's everything he says it is, and she's a trustworthy enough girl...if a bit absentminded, but I've had that problem myself, often enough.

Finding people to invite won't be an issue, Robert. But it at least might provide them with a bit more incentive to stop by...

[It's cool, Robert - Giles will be too busy being dead to run damage control after this.]

This is the least Robert has ever failed at social stuff. It's kind of breaking my brain to write 8D semper_cogitans June 14 2011, 04:44:11 UTC
Ranka Lee... I spoke to her once, too! A very nice girl, when we did speak - though she wasn't a human at the time. Rather, she was this adorable little green larval creature from her multiverse... But I digress.

[He chuckles at the next part. Yes, Robert chuckling...] Good point. I'll have to see about figuring out whom to invite, then.

[And that'll leave Robert to try to do it. Except he'll be way too depressed.

Great.]

Yes, I remember that experiment. Probably one of the most pleasant I've ever lived through. I do miss being a dragon, sometimes. Even if flying did take forever to sort out - I must have broken two ribs in the span of a week.

...and I suppose you had your fair share of fun being a turtle.

This experiment. I don't know if Robert will be able to live it down. semper_cogitans June 14 2011, 16:23:28 UTC
It was certainly fun and exciting, yes - well, when I was actually able to walk. Don had to help me out, there. [Robert smiles fondly at the memory.

... Though, of course, with neurotypicalness comes reinterpreted information, and suddenly Robert is realizing just what those social cues meant.]

Y'know, I'm realizing just exactly what people've said to me before. Not just what they say, mind you - what they mean.

[He grins, apparently unaware of the implications of this.] Guess it's just part of getting over my autism, right?

Getting over your autism?

I wasn't aware you had autism, Robert. Before now, apparently. [Granted, Giles hardly pays attention to conventional medical knowledge beyond "this body died of exsanguination", so he's barely aware of autism as a mental condition.]

Well, I'm happy for you. This new outlook suits you, Robert - much better than before.
