Her arms squeeze him a bit tighter -- and she shakes her head into his shoulder.

"You're right here with me. The moment I closed my eyes to open them again... you were here, Vash. You've never been anywhere else! Like my guardian angel."

For a moment Vash is quiet. Then he starts to laugh. It starts slow and quiet and gradually it gets a bit louder. "Yeah, I guess you're right. But you were always right, Rem."

And as long as he could find a way to take her and Wolfwood back to Gunsmoke with him when the time came, he'd make sure to keep it that way.

"Now you have the wings to match...!"

Should she feel burdened and heavy? She had never feared death, but nor was she too quick to embrace it. Had she been rescued from that fate? The ship had been exploding around her... but here, she was real and solid and despite those little wings at her back... she was alive.

Despite this beautiful world... it wasn't Heaven. And Vash... he was so different...

"I'm not an angel, Rem." Maybe when he was younger he would have loved to hear you say that, but he's done too many things wrong now. "I'm just... me."

There is an unspoken pain in his voice; she can hear it, and even after however many years it must've been for him since they've seen each other and how much he's changed... she can still read him like a book.

Her fingers curled a bit in the back of his coat. Red coat... the color just like her very favorite flowers.

"And you're perfect, just like that. You're right! Whatever and whoever you become -- you're still Vash, after all!" There's a little pause, before she adds with a soft undertone of amusement, "Even if you've gotten even more handsome."

There's something teasing in her tone as she sits back to look at him; he really has grown handsome. She's so proud of him... the shock of her situation beginning to fade -- or perhaps affording her the ability to look on things more subjectively until it all properly settled in. Whatever it was, she had no problem smiling at him as brightly as ever.

He blushes at first until a loud laughter bursts from his mouth and he rubs at his head sheepishly.

"AHAHAHAHA! Do you really think I'm handsome, Rem?"

"Of course I do!"

Her silly boy. He really hasn't changed, has he? Just as his eyes had lit up way back when, they did so now. It makes her feel reassured at heart. However much he's grown, he really is still her boy.

He blushes brightly at the compliment. "Well, I guess I do have a pretty face." The rest of him under this coat, not so much.

It would break her heart to know what lie under the red coat that she had already decided fit him so well... but even that was a part of him, and thus, beautiful to her.

She touches his cheek lightly at that, laughing softly. Oh, Vash.

"Still a Mama's boy, aren't you?"

At first he opens his mouth to argue. Say how he has grown up and is a man now, but then just melts into her touch. With a soft sigh he reaches up and puts his hand over hers.

"Yeah, I guess I am."

He grins shyly. "But, let's not tell anyone else." Oh god, Wolfwood and Sanji would never let him live it down.

At this, she laughs again. How could she help herself? This man is such a boy, even in an adult body. He'd shot up in growth, hadn't he? Like a weed.

"You're going to tell them all on your own! One look at you, and it's written all over your face."

"Awwww! Come on, Rem! No it's not!" Even Rem gets to troll him. It's just not fair!

Her heart tugs again -- in happiness and relief, a sense of peace having found its way in her. She had a second chance, didn't she? A second chance to be with Vash. To see the fruits of her labor in this boy and the world he'd built.

She is hugging him again, tightly, the relief making her chest tight.

"I'm so happy, Vash..." And she truly is.

"Me too, Rem." And as much as he hated to spoil this moment, there are important things they had to discuss. "But this world isn't all good. There are some bad things here, Rem."

This wasn't Heaven. She had to repeat it to herself, as unbelievable as it all seemed. This wasn't Heaven -- wasn't Eden. Surely wasn't the world that they have been hovering above before the eminent crash... that oceanless planet...

"Of course..."

She can't bring herself to ease up where she's hugging him just yet, but she's listening all the same.

"The bad always comes with the good. Nothing is perfect, right?" But she trusts him to inform her.
