[At some point a few days into the experiment, Grune will find herself somewhere dark and deep underground. The only light is a faint red glow down near the end of the tunnels.

Footsteps sound behind her, drawing nearer.]

[Oh, it's dark. Did she miss the sunset again? Or...hm, where is she?

It sounds as though there's a friend with her, and so she turns and calls out cheerfully:] Hello!

[The footsteps stop dead when she calls out. Someone breaths in sharply.

Then, moving quickly, Giles closes the distance between them, grabs Grune by the wrist, and drags her into an alcove. When he speaks, his voice is low and fast and scared.]

Please be quiet, Grune. Please.

[Grune opens her mouth to agree to be quiet, but--then she sees Giles' face. There's just enough light for that.

And so she nods instead, and slips her hand into his. He looks as though he needs someone to remind him he isn't alone here.]

[Giles squeezes her hand tightly. He can only wish that he were alone here, but...well, the least he can do is try to stop Grune from feeling as scared and hopeless as he is. Because of course she is. He can't be the only one falling apart here.

He presses his free hand to his mouth and just...tries to breathe more quietly.]

[Grune gives Giles' hand a squeeze back. Her fingers hurt a little from him holding her hand so hard, but that's all right. She's sure he doesn't mean it.

...He really does look scared, though. And so she sets her other hand on his shoulder, trying to get him to turn and look at her.]

[He flinches noticeably when she touches him, unable to hold back a gasp of surprise. He looks up at her just for a second, just long enough for the red light to show that, yes, he is very scared by the situation they've found themselves in, and has no idea how to deal with it.

A second is long enough for Giles to realize that Grune can probably see this, however, and he looks immediately away.]

We have to get out of here. We, w-we have to find a way out.

[That second probably wasn't enough for her to give him a smile, but she tried anyway.

Now, when she speaks, her voice is soft and calm.] It's all right, Giles. Everything is going to be just fine.

[It was, surprisingly enough. Grune is facing the light, and therefore getting the benefit of most of its illumination.

He nods, just once, when she speaks, having turned his attention to surveying the passageway before them.]

...yes, it will.

I'll make certain of it.

[He squeezes her hand once more before letting her go and easing his way out of the alcove.]

S-Stay there.

[lostinmyway]

All right.

[She watches him carefully as he leaves the alcove. Instead of letting her mind drift as usual, however, she thinks about what kind of spell she should use first. Bloody Howling might things a little hard to see in the dark. She'll try Aqua Laser instead, if she needs to.

She puts a magical friend-or-foe marking on Giles as he moves, just to be sure she won't hit him by mistake. It's very unlikely he'll notice.]

[Even if Giles were in a mood to look out for Grune of doing much of anything, he doesn't notice the mark being placed on him.

He looks left, and right, and left again. Finally, he looks back at Grune and nods cautiously.]

All right. I think we can move.

[lostinmyway]

All right.

[She walks calmly out of the alcove and takes his hand again. She leaves the marking on him, just in case.]

[He laces his fingers in hers' and leads the way - oh so slowly and carefully - down the tunnel. They're heading towards the red light.]

...I don't have the Scythe this time.

[lostinmyway]

[She looks at him, complete trust in her gaze.]

The Scythe?

Y-Yes, um...

[God, how to explain something that he can barely explain under the best of circumstances?]

It's, i-it's a weapon. It was supposed to save the world. I, I-I was supposed to have it. I mean, it wasn't mine, I was, was just supposed to...get it to someone.

...and now I can't.

It's all right. [She doesn't really understand what he's talking about, but he does seem to be fretting about it. That isn't very good.] We'll be fine as long as we stay together.
