[Grune is so lightheaded from her casting that it takes her a moment to focus on Giles.]

Don't worry. I'm just fine. I'm just a little dizzy.

[She staggers back a step, rights herself, and prepares to cast again.]

So am I.

...I'm not scared, and...I want to finish him off myself.

...he killed me, Grune. I can't ask you to defeat him for me.

Please, Grune, you can rest now. I'll be all right.

[She stops. The lights surrounding her soar into the air and disappear.

When she speaks, her voice is very soft.]

All right.

...Be careful.

[But she stays standing where she is. She doesn't rest. If Giles needs to be protected, she's going to be sure to be ready.]

I will. I promise. [He smiles at her, peaceful and unafraid for the first time in a very long while. He takes her hand and squeezes it briefly before turning back to face Twilight.

It isn't a fair fight. Giles has just received the biggest morale boost of his life, and Twilight is hurt and frozen and scared. But Giles doesn't want a fair fight, and if the god gets off a few lucky shots, it isn't enough to stop Giles pinning him to the ground and ripping his mask off.

...for a second, one long second, Giles and Angel stare into one another's eyes. Then Giles plunges the broken sword into his throat, and the body disappears in a flash of light.

It took far less time than it would normally have taken for Grune to cast another spell, but Giles feels as though years have passed as he slowly sinks to the floor of the cave, one fist still clenched as though Twilight's mask is still there, staring at the point where Twilight vanished. ]

[Grune hadn't looked away when Giles had given Twilight the final blow. She hadn't flinched, and she hadn't made a sound. All she had felt as she watched was sadness. This had been someone who had badly hurt one of her treasured friends, she knew, but now he was dead. She couldn't be happy about someone dying.

Once he's gone, Grune steps slowly to Giles' side, keeping her balance with care. When she kneels next to him, it's a little harder than she intended, and she pulls in a sharp breath at the pain.

Without speaking, she puts her arms around him and tugs him close.]

[Without speaking, Giles puts his arms around Grune and does the same. His hold is careful, and gentle, and overall he's just very scared that she's going to shatter and break on him.

The situation is so mind-numbingly unreal in the sheer fact of its ending that Giles hasn't even realized that he's starting to cry.]

[Grune shifts slightly. Holding someone while kneeling isn't ideal, but she's doing her best.

One hand slips up to the back of his head, tenderly but insistently bringing him still closer to her.]

[Giles pulls away just long enough to give Grune room enough to settle down comfortably. Then, he draws near to her again, holding her as close as she's trying to hold him.]

Thank you...

[His hold tightens briefly. His voice wavers.]

Thank you so much.

[For once, she doesn't reply with a cheery "You're welcome!" Instead, she says, with such clear love:] I'm glad I was able to help.

[She smiles, just a bit.] And I'm glad you're safe.

I am. [He hasn't felt this safe since he woke up here.] Thanks to you.

...you're a very good friend, Grune. And...I'm happy that you were here to help.

Everything's all right, and...now we just need to find a way out of here.

[Grune lifts her head a little from their hug and looks around.] Oh, do you think so?

[If she didn't have Giles to look after, she would already be lying down and taking a little nap here.]

Yes, I think so.

You look as though you could use a rest, and...well, I probably look as though I could use one, as well. I don't know what's going on in the rest of the village, but here is hardly the place for it.

[Grune pulls back a little more to look at him. She takes in his injuries without blinking, then meets his gaze again and nods.] All right.

[That decided, she smiles, leans forward, and kisses his cheek.] You should get lots of sleep. Then you'll feel all better.

[Her first try, she stumbles back onto her knees again, but the second, she's able to stand. She holds out her hand for him.]

[Was not expecting that. But, well, Giles never does. He ducks his head slightly, unable to stop himself from blushing a bit. And getting to his feet isn't much easier, but he does try to catch Grune when she stumbles, and sighs with relief when she proves able to stad.]

So will you.

[He takes her hand, lacing his fingers with hers'.] Let's go.

[Grune smiles at him and gives his hand a squeeze. When she pumps her fist into the air, she staggers back a step, but she catches herself quickly.] Charge!
