[Drying the sweat from his face and brow with his muscle tank - which is not all too useful, given that it is already somewhat damp - Mac steps out of the Battledome, exhausted but feeling a some sense of accomplishment after a long work-out. A sense of happiness is lacking, however. It hasn't been the easiest week and he has been hurting for some good company; male company more than anything, admittedly, because he didn't know of anyone whom he could consult and confide in and feel comfortable with. He didn't know of anyone who was there to listen patiently, to place his hand on his shoulder, to tell him it was alright when he felt lost and confused. He didn't know anyone like Doc ( ... )

[Anthony Blunt has been making his rounds along the edge of the party. Guy and Kim are mingling, and he intends to. But first he wants a feel for the situation. They still don't know who is friend and who is foe in this strange world.

But he hears a sound he knows well and glances over his shoulder. A quick once over and he chuckles.]

Hungry? [It's friendly enough, a smile accompanying the words, and a small gesture to the oh-so-close refreshment table.

He's essentially crashing the party himself, since he has no idea who's throwing it or what it's being thrown for... But keeping Guy Burgess away from a party is hard work, and Anthony felt it wasn't worth the fight.

So who he is to discourage someone else from joining in?]

[He smiles a little, sheepishly.] Y-yeah... Guess I ain't eaten in a while. [Scratching his head thoughtfully, he then asks:] Is it someone's birthday or somethin'? I kinda jus' saw this party walkin' by, y'know?

I haven't the faintest. [He smiles a bit.] Happened on it myself and figured there was no harm in adding to the guest list. It seems informal enough.

[He extends his hand.] Anthony Blunt.

[Glancing at the hand briefly, he then takes it and gives it a fairly firm shake, his mild smile returning.] D'name's Mac. Nice t'meetchya, sir.

[He chuckles.] Please. It's "Anthony."

Gotchya. [Mr.Anthony it will be!] ...So, uh... guess if it ain't no fancy party, I'll have one a' them hot dogs. They look real good. [He moves towards the table, grabbing a paper plate.]

I certainly think there's more than enough.

[He glances about the room, picking out his friends' positions without letting his gaze linger. All still well, good.]

Quite the turn out. Are you... familiar with this place? I'm afraid I've only just arrived.

[Mac looks up with half that ketchup-drizzled hot dog in his mouth.] Mmmf, weww- - [Hold on. Chewingchewingchewing.... aaaand, swallowing. There you go.] Oh. I ain't ever been to d'Rec centre here before so I can't really tell y'much.

[Anthony laughs.]

I'm rather new to the place entirely.

[But he has learned. He'll wait for the man to finish eating before he continues conversation. Which doesn't diminish that smile.]

[It doesn't take him long to wolf the rest of that down, and there more than likely is a spot of ketchup on his chin. Classy.] Oh! Y'mean, new t'Luceti?

Mm. Yes. Precisely.

[And Anthony will pick up a napkin and offer it, still smiling.]

[The little guy blinks at it, as if unsure what purpose it serves, before accepting it.] Uh, thanks. [He'll just hold onto it, yep.] So, um... y'got a book when y'came, right? [Pausing, he fumbles for his journal, but that tank top has no pockets, naturally - and neither do his pants.] Aw, man, I f'got it in my room. Anyway, it's jus' like, uh... like some kinda video camera in a book. When y'see it, you'll know what I mean. It's got a whole bunch a' stuff written 'bout this place. An' if y'don't feel much like readin' it all, they got this neat lil' thing where you can listen t'the words.

...I feel the intense need to apologize for Tony. winksandnods September 24 2011, 23:04:38 UTC
[...It might well get him punched. Anthony is fully aware of that. But he's taken the chance before, and he can give as good as he gets if a blow's struck.

So.

While the younger man talks, Anthony picks up another napkin and uses it to wipe at the bit of ketchup on Mac's face. Perfectly friendly, a simple smile, and no remark.

His smile increases only slightly at the words. He files the actual information away. Something to discuss with Guy and Kim later. Right now, there is something much more interesting in that statement.]

Perhaps you could show me how to use it sometime. When you haven't... forgotten it. That is.

Whu- -? [Mac might be a professional boxer - at least, back home -, but his reaction to unusual situations is sooner to back up or dodge than to throw a punch, unless there is little way around having to smack someone.

What an unusual thing to do. He cannot help but boggle at the gesture because that was the sort of thing his mother would do when he was a child.]

U-uh... [Wow. Rubbing awkwardly at the nape of his neck, he glances aside. What were they talking about, again? OH, right, the journals.] Thanks...? [He doesn't really get it, but in a way, that was kind of nice of the man to spare him some future embarrassment of being seen with a bit of a messy face. ] Yeah, uh, sure. I mean, it ain't no big deal once y'mess around with it.

No trouble at all.

[That smile hasn't changed.

He sets the napkin aside but does not take a step back from the slight advance that had been necessary to clean the ketchup off. Nothing more, though. Just that retained closeness and that smile.]

Wonderful. I should be able to pick it up quickly enough then.

I do appreciate the assistance. It's good to know fellow residents of this place are so... welcoming.
