[September 27]

[Albert has been struck with the bizarre role of ... an old man, complete with white hair and a full white beard. Along with this physical change comes a bunch of animals. Perhaps some of them are others' pets. Perhaps some of them are forest animals. Whatever it is, Albert can't seem to help calling them his children and ushering them back home. It was getting late and they all had to be fed broth and put to bed.

...All the while, he sounds harried and stressed about this, steadfastly trying to direct the animals back towards his house.]

[Later days (28th onward)]

[...Even after dealing with that particular tale and earning a short reprieve, Albert is again stuck with his white hair and beard. He seems to be fairly content at least, walking around with Kogoro and without all those other animals in tow. He keeps calling the black shiba inu Shiro, though.]

(ooc: Stories told here are The Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe and Hanasaka Jiisan, or The Old Man Who Made Dead Trees Bloom.}

[At first, the sight of the tall white-haired man herding animals to the house from a distance is enough to give Raine pause, as she heads back to the house with her arms full of the nettles she had been gathering. From the back, he almost looked like ...

Ah, but she couldn't call out. Raine could, however, move past the wayward animals and toward Albert, in the hopes of getting to tap his arm to get his attention. If there was one thing they wouldn't need to clean up after in the morning, it would be the result of having so many wild animals tearing up the house.]

[By the time Albert has managed to herd the animals towards the yard, he's looking agitated and tired, as keeping track of so many "children" is wearing on him quite a bit.]

Come along, children, it's getting late. [That was probably not very true, considering there was still sunlight left. He tries to keep his voice level and relatively quiet, even as he tries to analyze what he was doing. ...There was one of his children--a duck--heading towards his flowers. No.

He is, however, distracted by the tap, and he looks over his shoulder.]

[Raine raises an eyebrow slightly at Albert's new 'look', but that's not really what she's trying to bring to his attention. Instead, she tilts her head at him, questioningly, while delivering a pointed look to all of the animals loitering around on the lawn.]

[Albert looks suitably irritated by all of this, especially when he looks away from Raine to grab a squirrel trying to scamper up one of the trellises.]

It's almost suppertime. [He explains, as if that makes any sense at all.]

[... A squirrel.

She'll still favor him with a slight frown at those actions, giving a shake of her head, and then moving to indicate the sun's position with a slightly blistered hand. Part of the experiments compulsions, surely, but there had to be some way of working through it.]

[Albert sets the squirrel on the porch, then picks up the curious duck and sets it on the porch as well. When another squirrel tries to climb the trellis, Albert grabs that one and sets it on the porch as well. Carefully. Gently. Despite the impatience evident on his face.]

I know what time it is. [He sounds exasperated, and it's unclear if he's still in-character or not. But with those three "children" safely away from the garden, he looks at Raine, her blistered hand, and the plants she is carrying.]

...Nettles?

[Raine rather wants to say something along the lines of 'as long as they don't go any further than the porch', but that compulsion not to speak is stronger for the moment, so she nearly bites her tongue instead.

When he addresses her own oddities, she responds with a terse nod, readjusting her hold on them, almost protectively in reflex.]

[He furrows a brow at that reaction, but it's not long before the experiment takes hold and he is sweeping past Raine, ushering the other animals around the side of the house and up onto the porch. He tries to resist what he knows is coming, which in turn only seems to hasten the action of him opening up the front door to let the animals spill into the house.]

[...

She'd drop that bundle right there if she could, but it's hard not to stop and stare -- and bite down on her tongue, again -- as the front door is actually opened. She manages to move toward the porch, in any case, trying to keep any more from getting in and shooting another look toward Albert.]

[Albert glances in Raine's direction with a vaguely frustratedly-helpless look as the animals start jumping and knocking over whatever they can in the house. But he's soon enough walking inside, and he may even shut the door behind him if Raine isn't quickly following.

...He's already off to the kitchen, not quite in control of his feet.]

[The animals seem to follow Albert fairly quickly into the house, and Raine nearly has the front door slammed shut in her face for all her attempts at dissuading them. To add insult to injury, a few of the more rambunctious ones try to tug at the carefully gathered bundle of nettles in her arms. The screen dividing the living room and the foyer area is also knocked down fairly quickly.

And yet her priority is more focused on those damn nettles, as much as she'd rather drop them otherwise, though her expression isn't especially pleased, lips pressed together thinly as she tries to subdue the animals with ... a look.]

[His brow twitches and his frown deepens as he hears the chaos ensuing in the living room. There's even a confused yip from Kogoro as the poor dog encounters some of the animals that have taken over the living room and dining room. Squirrels on the dining room table, rabbits under the chairs, cats meowing and hopping on the coffee table, birds perching on the curtains and curtain rods...

All he can seem to do is chide the "children" over his shoulder as he puts a pot of water on the stove so it may begin heating up.]

Now, now, children. It's a small home, I know, but we have to make do.

[...He seems to belatedly realize just how many animals have actually followed him home, and he puts on another pot of water.]

[Frowning still, Raine heads to the kitchen to try and get Albert's attention again, but is forced to climb up onto one of the chairs herself when the tugs at the nettles get too insistent. A little goat as well? Really?

If the animals succeed in eating too much of her carefully gathered plants, she'll have to go out and get more again. Which is frustrating when there's not nearly enough time...]

[With the water set to begin heating, all Albert has to do is toss a few cubes of chicken-flavored powder. This was supposed to be for various animals, anyway. ...The birds may not like it, but that was not his problem.

It's as he finishes that task that he realizes his is temporarily free from throes of the tale, and he looks over at Raine on the chair ... before going over and chasing off the goat.]

All of this nonsense...

[Finally. She manages a slight grateful look when he chases the goat off, but it's bad enough that the goat is in the house to begin with. Good thing that the bedroom doors are all closed. Hopefully.

... Maybe she should try getting down now, anyway. But it's not like she wants to risk setting down her bundle to do that.]
