Let the world around us fall apart / baby we can make it if we're heart to heart )
[For the past few days, Ion had been doing everything he could to avoid thinking about that thing in the sky. The masks were a simple enough distraction... but they only made everyone blind to the truth. This was really going to happen. The moon's effects on the barrier alone was proof of that.]
[The room shakes and something across the room is knocked off the shelf. They were becoming more frequent now... it felt as though they never stopped. Would it be soon? He didn't even have the nerve to look out the window...]
[Sitting beside her on the edge of the bed, he gives Anise's hand a gentle squeeze. He doesn't even know when he grabbed onto it, but it brought him more comfort than any mask ever could.]
[And yet even so, he wished she didn't have to be here to face this with him. The earth rumbles in the distance as the room shakes again.]
...they're getting stronger, aren't they...

[She tries to blink away tears. It isn't fair! There's still so much she could do, so much that she and Ion could do together! It couldn't just end like this, after all they had been through.]
I'm...I...[She grits her teeth, looking down.] I'm just glad we're together.

[But even that didn't make death any easier to face. And with the impending destruction of the barrier and the village, who's to say what things will be like when they come back? Who's to say they will...]
...I'm glad, too. [He can hear how much she's trying to stay calm in her voice. Anise was strong. She carried so much responsibility on her little shoulders, often more than she needed to. Did she really need to hold back around him? No... perhaps it'd be better not to dwell on it. Whatever was going to happen was going to happen. If these really are to be their final moments... they shouldn't have to be painful. It's with that in mind ( ... )

[She knows that Ion is trying to distract her, and she's grateful for that. Her chatter grows more animated as details slowly trickled back to her.] Back then, you didn't even know what a lunchbox is!

It's almost strange to think about now. There were so many things I didn't understand that to anyone else would have been so obvious... I'm sure I must have seemed rather odd.

Heheh, yeah, you were a bit! But it was really fun, spending time together with you. [She laughs a bit as another memory surfaced.] Do you remember those jerks we met that day? You just had to stand up and look at them and they ran off!

[He can't help but laugh softly himself at the memory. Perhaps it's because he has so few to recall that the event stands out so much in his mind.] I think you were the one who really got to them. Even I was a bit surprised.

[A-and...She'll lean over and hug you, burying her face in the crook of your shoulder.]

Ion...? We'll be together, right?

We will. [In addition to the hug, he's also making sure now that he still has a firm hold on her hand.] No matter what happens... I'm not going to let go.
[Regardless of what faces them in the coming moments, that's one thing he's absolutely certain of. Not even the end of the world would make him let go of this hand right now.]
[The wind is howling through the shattered window. It won't be long now...]
[...]
Anise?

[The whole building rattles, and the sound of crashes rush in from the hallway. Anise gives Ion's hand another squeeze, then sits back so she can look right at his face. She still keeps his hand firmly in hers.]
You don't have to comfort me, Ion. I'm fine! [She smiles weakly.] I'm fine! I'm totally fine!

[Although she had been the one to pull back just now, he's going to be the one to embrace her this time. With one arm wrapped around her back and the other still holding her hand tightly.]
[The wind is growing louder as more windows throughout the house begin to shatter. It feels like it's trying to pull the house apart. If Ion weren't so close right now, Anise may not have been able to hear him.]
Anise, I... there's something I want to tell you.
