Settling in all right?

[It's...fairly obvious that Pilouette is quite new, and so Giles offers this up from his place against the wall as he sees the girl passing by.]

Oh!

[She was a bit lost in her thoughts of "omigod be cool," so she's a little startled when he speaks to her. After a second or two, she tries to put on a smile to mask her nervousness.]

Um, yeah! I mean, I'm still kind of getting used to everything but, um, I think I'm starting to get used to it all.

That's nice to hear. I've come to find that, no matter what sort of world you come from, everyone adapts eventually. Still, you seem to be managing.

[...ahahaha. Yeah, he can see how hard you're trying, Pilouette. But, no worries. Giles has been there and done that.]

I suppose you've been generally brought up to sped, then?

Yeah! I think I kinda get what's what. Most people I've met have been really nice to me, so far! It's making it a lot easier.

One of the advantages of this place, I've come to find. We've all been the guests at these parties at one point or another, we all remember how it feels, and so most of us are at least more inclined to stop and lend a hand where possible.

I guess that's good to know.

But the whole idea that I'm...well, kinda stuck here is still sort of hard to deal with. I guess all I can do is deal with it, huh?

[Not unsympathetically:] I'm afraid so. Still. You might not be here long. Some villagers aren't. And you might be sent home at any time. We all could be.

From there, it's just a matter of waiting. But I've never had issue staying occupied around here.

Really? I've heard that a lot of people have been here a long time, but...I guess it makes sense that it works the other way around, too.

[She brightens up a little, her smile turning genuine.]

...Yeah. I guess I just need to find stuff to do in the meantime!

There's a school, if you want. Certainly a unique educational opportunity, given the people from other worlds. There are a few organizations that you might join that will certainly keep you occupied. There's magic, which can be quite rewarding to those with the patience to spend on it. And that's just besides whatever ideas you might have.

I'll probably look into the school, then. I mean, that's pretty much all I did back ho-

[Wait, what was that last thing?]

...Magic?

[He smiles wryly at this reaction.]

Magic, yes. I take it that it isn't terribly common in your world?

No way! I mean, back home I don't think it even exists! Except for like, the card trick kinda junk, but...I don't think that's even really magic.

No, it isn't, although they're a useful enough skill that they probably shouldn't be discarded out of hand.

You really haven't heard anything about the Filial spirits?

Um...N-no.

[She glances off to the side for just a moment, a little embarrassed. This is starting to sound like she should have known about it by now.]

[...after a second, Giles takes pity.]

Well, everyone seems to regard them differently. I'm not surprised there still isn't much in the way of coherent information about them.

Oh. So, like, no one really knows much about them?

[This...makes her feel a little better somehow.]
