Good evening, Lucetians. Are you noticing things getting a little... creepier? Are your day to day interactions getting a little bit ... scarier?
That means, of course, we're drawing ever closer to the day you've all been waiting for...
Halloween itself, and the Halloween Ball!
Buckle in, folks, because this is going to end with a bang.
Remember how in the
last plot post, we hinted that something would happen that would require the normal characters to step into the spotlight? That very something will happen the night of the Halloween Ball.
As described in the earlier post, on the day of Halloween itself, a huge, creepy circus tent will suddenly appear over the plaza, at midnight on the dot. However, it'll be pretty dead inside (badum tch), very quiet, until Halloween evening itself, when you'll blink and find the tent filled with several hundred black candles, refreshments (of questionable origin), a plethora of large round tables all decked out in stylish black and cobwebs, and a dance floor. There is even music playing! ... though how, or from where, is quite a mystery, as there is no visible orchestra.
Anyone who goes into the tent at any point that day, however, will notice something in particular.
Once they're inside, the hallucinations stop.
That's right -- the tent is surrounded by a protective bubble that wards off all the hallucinations. Hence what was mentioned before about the mystical powers of the tent -- that is, the fact that all the creepy, terrifying things will suddenly stop. Costumes will look like regular costumes, your eyes will cease to bleed, and that screaming in your head will all go away.
Of course, nothing is ever that simple in Luceti. As the night go on, characters might feel a sharp... pinch. After which they'll feel quite ill. Wing feathers are being stolen, plucked right off characters' bodies, one by one by one. Some terribly fast, largely unseen force is preying upon every single partygoer in the tent, attempting to take each resident down slowly and very painfully.
Those of you quick of eye and keen of senses, however, will notice that this isn't just happening out of nowhere. All the characters may see
a strange man wandering around, simple white wings on his back seeming to indicate that he is a resident. Only very sharp characters, however, will see him in those moments when he suddenly turns into a blur of motion, leaving in his wake another Lucetian down a single feather.
(One note: the Beak Doctor will focus on strong characters more than anyone else. Anyone with powers may feel two, three, even four of their feathers plucked, while weaker or unpowered characters may feel the loss of only one, or none at all, if they're very lucky. The Beak Doctor is deeply interested in getting rid of threats, you see. You can still operate with one feather missing, but the more you lose, the sicker you'll feel. Keep this in mind for the next part:)
To chase down this Beak Doctor, we're going to need volunteers! However, the pool will be quite small at only four, and any character who was previously in the infiltration plot may not volunteer! (Muns who were involved may of course still offer a character who was not involved.) Simply put "volunteer" in the subject line of your comment and tell us which character you'd like to offer. But remember -- if they've had a lot of trauma and have been prone to hallucinations, they might not make it very far in the chase...
Why? Just a reminder -- as of Halloween day, the hallucinations will be dialed up to 11. Those with great trauma in their lives (again, trauma that has affected them -- please use your discretion) will be very nearly incapacitated by the horrific things they're seeing. It'll be up to their friends -- those without trauma, or those who otherwise are quiet on the hallucination front -- to get them to the tent and to relative safety and sanity. (This can be done by dragging people there bodily.)
Try to keep this in mind when volunteering a character! If they go insane the moment they leave the safe bubble of the tent, they won't be able to put up a very good fight.
Where is this all leading, you ask?
When the jig is up and the Beak Doctor realizes there are those in the party who are onto him, he'll flee -- right into the tunnels beneath the plaza. The four volunteers will give chase and detain him. Everyone else, however, might just want to follow and find out where he's fleeing to and why. This second part is open to any character -- anyone may go down the tunnel and see what lies at the end. Here is where the normal (or otherwise untraumatized) characters will have their huge advantage -- since the tunnel will eventually lead away from the tent's bubble of protection. Only those who can stay sane will make it to the end and discover who's been causing this mess all along:
A surprise! ♥ All will be revealed come Halloween.
Some quick logistics:
Yes, anyone can go down the tunnel as long as they are untraumatized/not deeply affected by their trauma. However, keep in mind that stronger characters will probably not be feeling up to a fight or chase due to their feathers missing. If you're unsure if your character would be considered strong enough to lose a lot of feathers, just ask!
On that note, the majority of feathers will be taken later in the night, probably after 11:00 or so. This is just to ensure that characters who want to actually socialize at the ball (but who are strong) will be able to do so. If you WANT to have more feathers stolen earlier on, however, do feel free.
There will be two separate log posts for the day: a general ball shenanigans post, and a post specifically for chasing down the Beak Doctor and heading down the tunnel to the plot's conclusion. The ball shenanigans log will be posted at 6 PM EST on the 30th. The plot shenanigans log will go up on Midnight EST of the 31st (that is, night of the 30th going into morning of the 31st). The logs are going up early to get in more room for tagging before apps open. Float between them as necessary if your character is going to be involved in more than one thing. Logs will be commentspam style to keep it quick and easy.
This post is honestly much too long. Like seriously oh my heavens do I win a "longest mod posts" award yet aaaaa. Questions? Comments? Fire away!
Correction! The time of posting for the ball shenanigans log has been changed, please see the updated information under the cut.
