LJ Idol - Week 6 - Sunrise

In early 2007 I was in the midst of some of the darkest times of my life. I'd been on medication for bipolar disorder for almost 5 years, hadn't worked or gone to school in over 3 years, and barely left my house. Part of my problems were the medications I was on. My body had been drugged for so long that I became lethargic, it happened slowly over ( Read more... )

Lots of people don't believe that the meds can do that to you, or that it's like withdrawl from heroin or something to get off of them. Ugh.

Ugh, that sucks. I hope the one that's making you feel horrible starts working to help, or you're able to stop taking it. *hugs*

Wow, I think we must've become lj friends sometime in 2007-ish, but I didn't realize you were going through this or that bipolar meds could do that to a person. Thanks for sharing your story :)

Any meds can do that to you, really. But anti-depressants, mood stabilizers and such effect brain chemistry, so they really do alter you and not always in good ways. I was on one for a very short time that made me incredibly violent, so yeah.

OK...Now I get your LJ name. Lucha...Spanish word for fight / wrestle. Are you Latino and a librarian? P.

Actually, wrestling is lucha libre. ;-D I got my name from a joke at ACW, actually. Our ring announcer announced someone in Spanish and then said "What? I'm no lucha librarian!" and I loved it, so I took it. And no, I'm pretty darn white and am an English major, not an actual librarian.

I almost got put on antidepressants a year and a half ago. I don't know if I could have dealt with feeling that lethargic.

They don't *all* do that. But I was on an anti-depressant and a mood stablizer, and med levels had been adjusted throughout the five years I was on them. So for me, the combination after so long was more of a detriment than a help. There are tons more common side effects that suck just as much. :-(
