VERY QUICK COMMENTARY ON SPN 5x19, WHICH IS CHALK FULL OF SPOILERS AND REALLY TIRED ANALYSES OF PROSELYTIZATION AND PORNOGRAPHY AND...STUFF:
Alright, so this is going to be painfully shorter than I want since I have to be up in four hours and haven't even gone to sleep yet! Basically, I'm already seeing a lot of DISRESPECT OF OTHER RELIGIONS!!11! posts about Lucifer waltzing in and smiting some pagan gods and everything, but I honestly saw this as a Judeo-Christian Proselytization trend, which I thought was amazing. I mean, Lucifer basically became the manifestation of the superior "converting" mindset that has guided the church for millennia, and even has that wonderful speech to Mercury about it, and a bit to Baldur too. Lucifer's pretty much Old Church in my mind: humans are horrible (it's your fault Jesus died!), demons are even worse (....duh?), and don't even get me STARTED on those other religions, just let me KILL THEM, since Christianity Is RIGHT! So, while others may see it as a sign of disrespect to other religions, I see it as pointing a big TV finger at the bloody history of the church and going SEE?! SEE WHAT THEY DO?! And, since that's one of the darkest, if not THE darkest periods of the Roman Catholic Church, I had a bit of a flaily omg they turned Lucifer into a covert history lesson!!! reaction to this. My brain is strange.
+14 for Lucifer characterization btw, Show. This new addition makes me want to make some kind of video of Lucifer to this song. Because I am strange.
