I've never read the Tortall stories, but I was able to follow and enjoy this just fine. Well done.

can't help but wonder for a moment if it'd be better off dead

Sensible John - deals with strange deities *or* with the devil really should set off alarm bells, and he's got sense enough to realize that being dead might not be the worst that could happen to him.

The legend about the bargain between Jihuk and the mysterious deity who took away his madness - well done. Naturally the goddess of mind and madness would be able to deal with a god who had been driven mad.

Except then John notices the big blue chevron at the end of the small slip of paper. That, and the ‘not as bad as you think’ written in tiny neat letters beneath it.

Good one. :) John is even *more* sensible. :)

I like the way you've tied up Anthea's possible memory loss issues from "A Study in Pink" with Mycroft's powers. His mother's a very clever matchmaker.

You didn't really think a goddess sent you to me just to be roommates, did you? Have you ever heard of divine ( ... )

Oh my god this might literally be the greatest thing I have ever read ever. I don't even know how you managed to meld these two quite dissimilar worlds so perfectly, I'm just in awe that you did. Even if John should technically not be a Knight since making a noise in the Chamber of the Ordeal means you fail. Unless 'Mummy' was blocking sound to the outside world? That whole part was so brilliant though, that I don't even care. And for me that's huge, I'm one of those annoying people that usually can't get past things like that.

This is seriously amazing though, I hope you'll consider writing more.

This was just amazing. I guess I will have to read the books to understand the other half.

Thanks!

Oh my, that was FASCINATING and surpruisingly powerful. The mythos of the two boys, their divine mother and insane father resonated with me like true legends do. Mycroft, perfectly forgettable. Sherlock, utterly maddening. And the perfect person their mother promised them both.

*contemplates* Mmm, lovely.
